Danny, some would say there is religious justification for wearing it - which is why we get westerners clamouring to defend it. Got to respect culture and religion and all that. However, for those who do have a free choice it is without doubt a political uniform. It's far more in evidence now than it's ever been.
Naomi is it safe or even offensive to say, if someone is wearing a burka, they're either suppressed, or deranged?
spath, Don't ask me. Try it and find out.
Naomi, I'm afraid that you see things in a different light to me.As I said earlier I have never seen young girls with their faces covered.Let's just agree to differ and leave it there.
Naomi, i have my own thoughts. If you want people to figure it out for themselves, then stop implying things, and saying things 'are how they are'.

Selective answering.
I've actually NEVER seen a woman in a burka... only a Niqad or Hijab. I didn't know a burqa had to have a mesh over the eyes.

This AOG would make them very bad letter boxes.
danny, I don't understand that. You haven't seen it so it doesn't happen - but you know it does because I've given you a link to a responsible newspaper confirming it. Denial?
Naomi, i can't even find google images of young Muslim girls wearing a burqa or Niqad.
The face-veil was originally part of women's dress among certain classes in the Byzantine Empire and was adopted into Muslim culture during the Arab conquest of the Middle East.
"There exists no single reason why women may wear the burqa, and this practice must be understood within a particular social context. A woman may wear it to express her piety, her views on sexual modesty, her rejection of Western notions of sexuality, her desire for increased mobility or privacy in a social environment dominated by men, or her membership in a political movement. In the most publicized context, women were required, often against their will, to wear the burqa by the Taliban as a matter of policy during their rule of Afghanistan."
Naomi, I repeat what I said at 15.44. It is now my time to log off.
spath, how would you know the ages of the people you're looking at?
No need to repeat it, danny. I read it the first time.
Naomi.. i'm pretty sure height is a decent indication when we're talking about minors, not to mention their general physique
:o)
if you think a male can't tell a pre-prepubescent by their body size and overall vibe then allah help us all.
Keep digging spath. :o)
lol i know you agree with me though ;) Most men can tell an 5-16 year old from a 18-25 year old without having to see the face.
Some Muslim babies do wear the hijab. Never seen one in a niqab. If you've never seen a woman wearing a burkha ,come to Burnley, Rochdale, Haslingden and you'll see lots.
It's a strange sight to see a woman in a full burkha holding her little child's hand and the child is wearing all western clothes. T-shirt, trainers, tights etc.
If an adult woman wants to wear a hijab that's fine but forcing one on a child is abuse.
