Labour Pledges £10 Minimum Wage For Under-18S

Sounds good – but could it rebound? Will it deter business from employing the young in favour of, in effect, getting better value for money from older, more experienced staff?

I mean, I can completely see the business logic in paying younger people less (or older people more, depending on which way you look at it), because of their relative lack of experience. But then that's a business decision, rather than a state one. Let the minimum wage be universal, and fair to all parties, and leave businesses to do the differentiation.
In NY waiting staff lost jobs and hours over the minimum wage. Predictions for long term job creation also went down in that sector.
Although it could be said that these things find their right balance. Job and hour losses are immediate but once businesses get used to the wage bill and price their goods accordingly they sort themselves out.
With a hike in wages the costs get met by purchasers so then to a degree the minimum wage needs to go up....

As far as possible I buy goods made in the UK, it is becoming harder and I do pay a premium, but there is only so much more that I am prepared to pay.
Even classic brands that once boasted they were proud to be fully British not make a lot of their goods abroad simply because it is cheaper.
Prices will increase if this is pushed through, not just of goods but services, too.
