//The name of the mother speaks volumes.// Really? Do names do often 'speak volumes' Jackdaw? 'Pagan Clover' is the name of the victim's mother who lost her little girl and 'Pagan' is a Pagan name. you mean Boris Johnson for treason and disloyalty
yes I would too .....
We are powerless. We sit and fume, pontificate, and advise. All to no avail. Your government does whatever it suits it. Your elected MPs dither and bumble. I seem to recall that briefly there emerged a referendum party, giving the general public opinion to decide various laws.
That soon went the way of the Dodo.
well the referendum party wanted a referendum on EU membership, they didn't achieve it but St Nige did.
Gladeian - // I find it difficult to come to terms with the people whose views of the death penalty are that it does not deter heinous crime. I would wonder whether their opinions would change if one of their loved ones was subjected to a vile crime. //

An often-used - but entirely futile argument.

Here's another one, how would a Capital Punishment supporter feel if a reprieved murderer donated a kidney that saved the life of one of their relatives?

An equally nebulous point - and as worthy of a question, or not, depending how you see it.
The name of the mother speaks volumes.
Dodger - // It might also encourage some of them not to commit murder in the first place. //

Statistics the world over prove that this argument is simply not valid.

I have pointed out, times without number, that no-one commits a murder, or indeed any serious crime, having first considered the consequences - because no criminal ever believes they will be caught.

That's simple human nature - criminals don't rationalise the finer points of the future - especially their own.
OF course there should be capital punishment. Why should the rest of us have to pay to keep these scum in prison giving them 3 meals a day and free board
The last time a newspaper had a poll 0nly 5% of those that voted said there should not be hanging. Another case of MP's not calling out the wishes of the people
gollob - // OF course there should be capital punishment. Why should the rest of us have to pay to keep these scum in prison giving them 3 meals a day and free board //

Because as a civilised society, we don't equate a human life in terms of saving money - and that applies to any human life, even ones which appear worthless to society.
The death penalty is a punishment, not a deterrent.
High time is was brought back.
US max security federal prison. Soundproof cell minimal phone use, 24 hour lights on and no human contact. That should do
//The death penalty is a punishment, not a deterrent. //

Can you punish someone , if they are not aware / experiencing the punishment ?
I have always, always stated that child murderers should be hanged (although I know this will never happen, sadly). They are the very lowest of the low. Just look at that pretty little girl - gone forever because of human filth !!
I haven’t read yet why he did it?
SparklyKid - // The death penalty is a punishment, not a deterrent. //

Then why does anyone anywhere, ever, argue that it is a deterrent?
We won’t get the hanging back but this Vermin should never see the light of day again, and should be castrated,,her as well she should be sterilised
It certainly deters the murderer.
It's all just so simple to some.
// The death penalty is a punishment, not a deterrent. //

I agree. It's also a way of ensuring no-one else will ever become a victim of that particular criminal.
No no no, the death penalty is the easy way out for society. IF our courts guided by parliament gave out proper sentences ie life means life. No parole, no good behaviour. This is by far a worse life for these despicable people than a painless injection .
//The name of the mother speaks volumes.//

'Pagan Clover' is the name of the victim's mother who lost her little girl and 'Pagan' is a Pagan name.
'Michael Wild' is the murderer and 'Michael' the name of a Christian Saint and Disciple.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot with your religious bigotry. You honestly couldn't make up such inappropriate twaddle on a thread such as this if you tried.
