About an hour ago, literally, we were visiting a client in hospital. A nurse came over to see him, who was very clearly male, but wearing a dress, eyeshadow and mascara. Would he be more offended if I had assumed him to be male or female? Any guesses? I just avoided it entirely.

If i met a person, who wasn't trans, why would i mention their gender at all? Has it any relevence?

It may have been polite to ask what prefix they'd like to be referred to as, but apart from that, it's a topic no one should bring up.

If someone was disabled, would you go over and start commenting on it? I'm sure not.

Gender, no... of course not, but sex often is. Sir, madam? Thanks for your guess... but having more or less grown up in pubs that were at least 50% glam rockers- men with long hair and often make up, I would love to see their response when you referred to them as "she".

Well this is half the issue with how society has defined gender.. IE boys in blue women in pink. Why can't men wear dresses?

the answer is they can.. but IF they did, due to how society has conditioned us, we would thing there was something "odd" with that, when really, they're just wearing some clothing garment.

no but it's not about feminine or masculine, Who cares if a man is feminine etc.. it's about if people generally consider it "odd" if they saw someone just walking own the street in a dress.

No way, spice. Thankfully, humans don't need to sniff bottoms or look at genitals to be able to tell. We just use face shapes, or body shape.

Spath, society changes constantly. Women have had to fight to work, etc etc. This is no different. Be how you are, and don't pretend. That is not fair on anybody.

My brother used to wear skirts/dresses and he had loads of gorgeous girlfriends.
I might have had a crack at it myself if I could have squeezed into one.
