Confused. There are 313 Tory MPs. 114 voted for Johnson in the first round, so that leaves 199 non-Johnson votes (assuminghe gathers no more). But for two other candidates to surpass him they need a minimum of 115 votes each, or 230. Gove 80 + 37, Hunt 76 + 43, totals 236. Where are the extra votes being generated ?

I assume that for Johnson not to make the final two, he would have to lose some votes.
For example, in the 2016 contest, in the second vote Gove got less votes even though there were more votes available because two candidates had been eliminated.

That is unlikely to happen to Johnson, but some tactical anti Johnson voting could happen because he is not particularly liked by his colleagues.

I still maintain that it is the job of MPs alone to elect their leader and that the vote should not be put to the wider party. That's how we ended up with Corbyn.

Labour and the SNP are bitter rivals in Scotland which makes a Westminster pact a lot less likely than a Lib Lab Pact (which we have had before).

Mushroom we may be voting for our MPs but way back when Maggie was in power I was a poll clerk for a local council election and the number of people who told us they were 'voting to get rid of Maggie' was quite alarming.
