Didn't know him personally, but he was quite a character.
Question Author
I personally didn't rate him. However, sad news.
I thought he was a horrible old man.
Why is it sad? He was 79, knew a bit a horse racing and was a sexist pig who picked his nose and ate it.
Good innings, really. He wasn't an advert for healthy living.

Yes, excessively

Strange. The other day, when I suggested that condolences for the stowaway whose frozen body fell from an aircraft were unjustified one or two on here said I was wrong. Here we have a gentleman who, whilst his attitudes on certain subjects may not have been to everybody's taste, did nobody any particular harm. In fact for some he provided considerable entertainment. Conversely the gentleman in the aircraft wheel well came extremely close to killing a person on the ground and that person may never recover from the trauma. As well as that his activities could have jeopardised the safety of an aircraft with far more serious consequences.

So, if you pick your nose and display sexist attitudes towards women the world is well rid of you; if you jeopardise the safety of an aircraft, nearly kill someone on the ground and leave him with possible permanent mental damage you deserve condolences.

It's a funny old world.

Or as PP would say, just another day on AB!
No comparison.
Question Author
NJ just made the comparison.
//No comparison.//

Indeed not. But I'm puzzled as to why the world is well rid of one party but should sympathise with the family of the other.
And to add, that if it was the other way round I might get it. But this way round I don't.
Horrible man..... but I’m sure his family/friends will mourn his death .
I didn't comment on the stowaway for starters.
Whatever happened to 'don't speak ill of the dead' ?
That's a load of rubbish, danny.
Question Author
Ennit Hitler was a nonce and he's dead. We talk ill of him.
Horrible man gave me the complete heebie jeebies - was a sexist goat to boot.
