I am unable to join in the joyous reception of the news of Sutcliffe's possible demise, not because I wish him to carry on living, but because of what that rejoicing does to me as an individual.
To be gleeful about someone's death makes me someone I would not wish to be.
I knew one of his victims. I saw what he did to her mum and dad. I saw her dad often and watched him age prematurely.....the sorrow never left his eyes. I wish Sutcliffe a long, slow and very painful end to his life.
And visited by a doctor weekly! That just makes a mockery of the system where we can’t get to see a GP when necessary.
I’m with gness....... long, slow and very painful and aware of it all.
Yes, Andes, if only that could have been done, and many many others would heartily agree with you. However, there is always the sanctimonious smug platitude offered by some that that punishment would merely "reduce us to their level".
sanmac--I can't see how it would reduce us to his level. We wouldn't be killing an innocent person but an evil murdering piece of scum.
I would much rather a quick painless end to his life rather than ' a slow painful one 'that some on here are clearly in favour of. I don't condone torture .
I'm not with gness. I would never wish pain and suffering on any creature - even creatures like him. A short, sharp, painless lethal injection years ago would have been my solution but since that didn't happen he'll die when he dies - and when he does the world will be a better place.
