Is it time for gun control in America? Yet we have another horrendous mass shooting of innocent people. Australia managed it incredibly quickly how come America can't. Something has to be done

Back to the thread then - as i said in my post referring to your colleagues at your shooting club, I do not believe you can say without fear or favour that NONE of your colleagues would ever go on a shooting rampage, because, as I pointed out, you cannot know that.

Do you have a response to that point, now that we are simply debating?
Retro is quite correct re police checks for rifle ownership. My son had to belong to a recognised gun club. He had to purchase and fit bolted to the wall and floor a heavy duty steel gun case. The ammo to be kept in a separate locked compartment. The police checked the security was acceptable. He was vetted thoroughly for emotional and mental dependence, by the club and the authorities. There was lots more, included regular attendance and strict supervision. He hid the key even from me. So, with that in mind, l think a nut job would be picked up on the radar from club members or police checks. It’s a shame that such stringent measures are required, but necessary in today’s world. Though, criminal acquisition doesn’t seem too daunting to certain elements.

Beware, the Andrew has spoken!
retro is also correct as to the fragmentation of control in the States, there being different licensing laws for both kit and ammunition between the individual States and not forgetting little details and variants like age restrictions.

This isn't exactly the only area of such 'control'- and State laws are so ever different for things like alcohol consumption or even things like driving license ages.....(and many other areas from shopping hours to bible sales).

This reflects the traditional, historical independence of the State - not the States....and there's no way that Augusta, Austin, Montpelier, Albany, Sacramento or Tallahassee etc are going to give up those rights.

Throw in the 2nd Amendment and what is needed for constitutional change majorities as to new Amendments or existing ones (essentially 70% of both Houses majority) and that's why we US observers or who have lived or live there are so skeptical to Washington DC change).... my view is that something could be done with taxation of the ammunition and finding a system to credit bona fide users like gun-clubs for use on the premises or for farmers, even legit shoots.

//oh come on you are being a tad unfair to the people of Hungerford
whom I have always thought of as being faceless bureaucrats supply pen pushers for the city of London//

PP - my postal code is Hungerford. I remember the day of Michael Ryan killings. It was a ghastly day for everybody, very fearful for our loved ones whom we couldn’t contact. The press blocked the phone lines. It was a one off event, he certainly was deranged and shouldn’t have firearms. These days he would have a doctor’s mental certificate.

How come you think we are pen pushers of the city of London PP?

AH. Jesus Christ, Buddha, and Mohamed, were in a room with a gun on a table. The lights went out, there was one shot fired......who did it?
/./Hopefully this time you can address my point, without being personally offensive in doing it.//
Just look back and re read what you wrote about me. You are in no position to opine on any subject you are ignorant on.It is you, all the time who commences the snide insults and manages to get threads pulled. Good night.

I give up.

I made a simple point about the capcity of anyone and everyone to kill someone, and you went off in a frankly alarmingly hysterical manner - and I meant exactly what I said, I would wonder about your fitness to own weapons based on your tendency to go off like a bottle of pop when you feel insulted, without actually reading what is said, and assessing if it was in fact aimed (pardon the pun) at you personally, or simply a point for debate.

If you wish to behave in such a manner, then there is no point of reference for us.

If you wish to answer the point, I will be delighted to discuss it with you.

This has nothing to do with saying I am an 'expert' in either guns or psychology - but I maintain that my point is a valid one, and contest your assertion.

If you wish to reply to my point, I await with interest, if you want to fume and stamp about and be offensive, please do it somewhere else.
Answer - President Trump as he had to be number 1 - he had them all in a line and used a Magnum at close distance.

Actually, I am, we all are.

Ignorance of something, and seeking information is the raison d'etre of this site!
Buddha did it, Mohammed copped it, Jesus said I am the light.
I’ll get me coat.
Just trying to lighten the post a little.

My similarly dark sense of humour made me laugh at that.

Does the name Harold Shipman ring any bells?

Lunatics don't have a big red sticker on their forehead saying "I'm going to kill someone today!!!"

Some of the worst killers in human history presented as the most respected and 'ordinary' members of society - how could they not?
Andy - wasn't Shipmans motives for financial gain?
he forged a will in his favour from one of his victims and may have stolen jewellery from some of them. I don't know that all the killings were about money, though
Andy has brought Shipman into these debates before. I don't think they can really be compared.
