I don’t think the idea (which is probably a bit of a non story anyway as in the actual interview which I watched Ms Swinson was pretty vague - Krishnan Guru Murthy rather jumped on it as a major story. Tho it’s hardly a secret that Harriet Harman is no fan of JC.
A no confidence vote could and should lead to a general election tho it's true we’d have to wait 14 days because of the ridiculous rule about trying to form alternative governments.

At least if you didn't like the caretaker government of Clarke et al you could vote them out. On the other hand, Dominic Cummings is playing a major role in setting out current government strategy and he's completely unaccountable.

But Remain-supporting MPs need to be careful. I'm all for fighting, as hard as we can, to put the argument for remaining in spite of the 2016 referendum to the people again. What I'm not comfortable with is winning the argument by default. I'm still fairly confident that there will be a general election within the next six months. Not sure I want to hand such easy ammo as this "plotting" does to Farage and Johnson and others.

Yes I agree. You can only imagine the capital that will be made out of the wrangling and conniving that would be bound to happen while a so called interim government was co bled together. It’s simply not going to happen. But those 14 days are 14 that can ill afford to be wasted.

It is all a farce and a shambles, and every day is depressing.
The electorate are divided, and no one can predict the result of a General Election or a 2nd referendum vote.
But the voting public will not take kindly to a coup to remove Johnson/Conservative Government. Corbyn and the Labour Party would snatch defeat (from a 50-50 contest) if they contrived to install Corbyn into No.10 by the back door.
It is bad enough that Johnson arrived there by conniving and duplicitousness. For Remainers to install Corbyn (or whoever) by even an more deceitful route, would be unfortunate. And possibly dangerous.

There were howls on here a few weeks back that Mr Johnson had "seized the Premiership by default", "Had no mandate to govern", "was elected by 0.0000001% of the electorate" etc. etc. Now we see the prospect of an 80 year old man who has spent the last three years rubbishing anybody who speaks up for Brexit accompanied by a woman who has only just been elected to lead a party with just 14 MPs (two of them defectors from Labour via "Change UK") taking the reins. This, coupled with a number of Tory MPs proposing to bring down their own government and we really have entered La-La Land. And all because they cannot have their own way.

It wouldn’t of course be a “coup” Gromit. Under existing rules if the government does not have the confidence of parliament then another government must be formed within 14 days or there’ll be an election. It’s just that the prospect of that happening seems remote, and even if it did it would be vulnerable to inaccurate criticisms like yours which might be wide of the mark but would nonetheless be damaging.
I see the Lib Dems have now backtracked on Corbyn which is sensible, because like him or loathe him, and I’m in the latter camp, he is the official leader of the opposition, even if at times it feels that post is held more by Ian Blackford or the estimable Dominic Grieve.

It would be perceived as a coup even if it followed the rules, and would be counter productive in my view.
There seems to be a kamikaze mentality in the Remain camp. Stop No Deal Brexit at all cost. If the cost is a quick General Election and 5 years of Tory rule, then the cost is too great.
If we do crash out on Oct 31st with no deal, Boris’ Government is very weak, a majority of just 1, and they won’t survive long anyway. Let them lose a No Confidence vote later, and have a proper General Election later.
