74Yr Old First Time Mother

I see that a 74yr old Indian woman has given birth to twins after IVF treatment. Her husband is 80 and they were married in 1962.

Surely this can't be right?

Morally questionable since she and her husband's unlikely to be around for the child's journey into adulthood, and even if they are, unlikely to have the energy needed for parenthood at that age. But it's the medical/legal profession that needs to explain why they offer IVF in unsuitable cases.

It's truly madness. I read another article about an Indian lady in her 60s going through IVF. She did look fit and well at the time but a couple of years later she looked utterly haggard.

It does seem excessive, I would be surprised if she had the energy. But each to their own. Nowadays, it wouldn't be surprising if she did see them into adulthood.

I imagine that there are other family members to help with bringing up these twins or they are wealthy enough to pay someone to help out. Did they pay for the IVF?

She can't breastfeed according to the link. The average age of the menopause has only risen 9 years since about 350 BC. But life expectancy has more than doubled. I'm not saying it is necessarily a great idea, but probably will become more common.
