Ultimately tho if there’s one thing Turkey and Syria agree on tho, it’s that they don’t want uppity Kurds asserting themselves.
I hadn’t realised that the animosity between Assad and Erdogan is largely personal: Mrs Assad insulted the Turkish leader in a letter or something, to a third party, after the two families had been socialising together.
And it’s been downhill all the way ever since.
I still would like to know what motivated Trump to leave the way clear for the invasion. As tactical blunders go it’s up there with the best/worst.

Not necessarily a case of unilateral action. When one has courted the disapproval of friendly nations life can become less comfortable. Having a go at friendly nations' other friends is high risk.

In an interview last month, he told European leaders that captured ISIS Fighters would be released and moved to the border. and they would have to be recapture again. It sounded such a dumb thing to threaten, that no one took the threat seriously. By allowing Turkey to attack the Kurds,Trump has fulfilled his promise.
