No that it changes anything, but it explains why they were being smuggled.

derek 11:54 :They were originally thought to be Bulgarians and as such would already have a right to come here so no need to be smuggled. As is turns out they are Chinese and therefore not EUSSR citizens and therefore were being smuggled.
I wonder if they came from Hong Kong?
Are you saying no EU nationals are ever smuggled into Britain, Tora?
ToraToraTora god elp us back to you. Thousands of European workers get smuggled over every year by Gang Masters to work for nothing. Go Google it.

No ZM, I'm not saying that, but there is no need to smuggle them. Surely it's easier to just get a passport and come here? Why would anyone need to be smuggled?
^^^^because they are poor, can't afford a passport can't afford an airfare or boat ride, and because they are promised good paid work and a place to live by these villains who then sell them into slavery.
some of the slavery rings broken in Northern Ireland the slaves free'd were EU Nationals 'smuggled in' under false promises.

still murder, whatever nationality they were
As I have said before, it is not murder. At the worst it's manslaughter by neglect.

Jackdaw, //At the worst it's manslaughter by neglect. //

I said that but now, since more information has emerged, I'm not so sure. If you know people are confined at a temperature of minus 25 degrees, it's reasonable to assume they're not going to survive for long.
But for murder you have to prove intent to kill or GBH.
schrodinger's cat. By putting the cat in the box, you accept that there are only two possibilities, especially when you're well aware of the conditions in the box.

It is a technical one.. Murder / Manslaughter.
Just reading an update from the Mirror in which a friend of the driver claims he wouldn't have known these people were in the container. And, they could be right. Apparently the bodies are judged to have been in there for more than 12 hours but the driver only "picked up the trailer 2 hours before the migrants were found dead."
Bit rusty on my law now but I believe 'Recklessness' as to the possible consequences of an act is included in murder as well as criminal damage and a few other offences. The act was certainly reckless to lock these people in a refridgerated lorry so I think murder will stick.
