... The new Clockwork Orange? I applaud the cinemas that have pulled this film but when they do that to films they end up with cult status.

I'm very uneasy about banning films, songs, pictures or any creative enterprise. I haven't seen the film but I heard on radio that it's message is love not violence. Don't like mob rule.

"heard on radio that it's message is love not violence." - yeah I heard that but a load of knife wielding scum seem to want to see it and then cause trouble.
I repeat I don't like mob rule. Very nasty memories for anyone who has lived before or during WW2.
I am a bit conflicted on this.

A film about street gangs and postcode turf wars could be informative, and broadcast the futility and pointlessness of it all. I think that was the aim of the film (it was inspired by a YouTube series). I don’t know if this film’s message is successful or not. But it seems that the subject matter alone is enough to bring out these petty gangsters to the cinema where they are are encountering their enemies and the result is violence.

I am wary of banning a film or restricting its showing just because it is a subject matter I do not like.

Sadly, extra security and let the film play is about the best course.
It isn’t clear from the reports whether any body actually watched the film. The violence is outside. Is that pre-show or after?

If the violence is a result of what they have witnessed on screen then that is worrying. But it sounds as though gang members are turning up pre-armed with weapons before seeing the film. Sadly rap culture has violence in its veins, and perhaps it is impossible to portray the genre without spreading the violence.
Once again the cinemas are being accused of racism, it is not the film or the cinemas that are to blame, it is the savages who take to the streets with their knives and machetes.
Why ban it when they could just go home and watch Top Boy.
I haven't seen anything about racism, but I agree that no film or book is ever going to turn someone violent.
They should invite rival gangs to empty football stadiums midweek & let them have at it. No holds barred / no prosecutions / no emergency services. See who turns up.
It looks a deep and fascinating insight into the world of the streets too but there will always be a small and dangerous group who will not be able to perceive the message within.
its supposed to be about love not violence. I think that it was wise to pull the film but it's still being shown in the west end cinemas...
it's been unbanned

Vue say they had 24 incidents at different cinemas within a day of it opening. Regardless of censorship questions, I think they have a right to protect their property and staff. (It isn't clear from the wording whether the violence was actually inside the cinemas.)

It has to be up to each Cinema Chain to decide, it's very sad that a hard of thinking minority cannot watch something or even know it's being screened without acting like thugs.

They wouldn't trash their own lounge up whilst watching a documentary on the same topic - or would they?
or would they?

Probably, if you knew the area's around Star City.
Sad then.
Very, Mamya.
I would assume the message of the film is anti gang violence.

Unfortunately most of the people already into that kind of thing will probably miss that message and it will simply serve to glamorise the subject in their eyes.

I think each cinema\chain has to make their own decision on whether to show it or not, and this might depend on things like location. They have a duty to protect both customers and staff.
from the report I saw last night it seemed to be pre planned, like a nastier version of screenings of the Rocky Horror Show movie where the audience turn up in costume and join in. If this is the case, I can see why that cinema chain took the decision not to screen.
so can i ^^
Maybe not ban the film but only show it when no other film is being shown. Would any of the members of AB want to take their children/grandchildren to see a Disney film in the same multi-plex this gang film is being shown?
