Good news but it will be hard to enforce, most of the men will continue to do what sharia dictates - it works to their advantage. The ousted regime was an Islamic dictatorship, conflating sharia with 'public order' was just a way to drag the non-muslim minorities into line (typically, only the wealthy were 'above the law').

On Twitter, Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok paid tribute to women "who have endured the atrocities that resulted from the implementation of this law"
Hopefully all societies manage to progress to better ones, even if the path there meanders about a bit.

would hope that this leads onto better times for their women.. as i do for all women who are oppressed across the globe.
Unfortunately they are only ever going to be very small steps in the ME.

ref another thread - Sudan IS mostly desert (unlike South Sudan)! But still has 40 odd million people.
