Is this likely to be "banter", or given it was a secret recording is it more likely that these are his true feelings?

Either way it's pretty bloody embarrassing.

I saw him trying to wriggle out of it on Victoria Derbyshire earlier. He's screwed up big time.

Although he's probably right.
Ouch! I wonder who recorded it?
There have been politicians on both sides recently , who have tried to wriggle out of situations .

Won't make any difference - the greens will romp home with a stonking majority
//the greens will romp home with a stonking majority //

Haha! If that was'nt a joke it really would be 'green'. :o)
It sounds less like 'banter', which is the best, and frankly only spin he could put on it, and more like someone saying what he thinks 'in private '.

We've all done it haven't we, moaning to a mate about our boss when he's standing behind us.

Just when Labour were getting a bit of purchase on the Tories underfunding the NHS they shoot themselves in the foot. Both feet. And a hand.
they have suggested the Tories did to deflect things away from the Boris Photo.....
***.

They probably planted the Boris photo to begin with - or the Russians did as per the NHS numbers. All that I have talked to and my experience too, how many nurses in A&E wouldn't hold a young boy who needed treatment....maybe the doctors wouldn't but the nurses in there are incredibly caring. Yep, the Russians or some rabid socialists trying to make out a photo-opp......
someone posted this earlier, it is damning and hilarious in one go
Any falsehood will work when in a panic for being caught out telling the truth.

They probably held back from revealing it until BoJo dropped a brick. Hey-ho.
Thanks royfromaus.
I had a chance to hear an extract from the tape in the car on the way home.

It sounds like a serious conversation, no hint of humour anywhere, and no laughing, that is what banter is.

This was not it!

I set this question over 12 hours ago, and the recording itself has been all over pretty much every news channel and as a link on Newspaper websites, so I must confess I'm a little surprised our resident leftists haven't commented.

Although, actually, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.

There's no way they can state it's fake, or sensationalism from, as one of them oh so wittily says, 'The Daily Wail', or it's 'banter' as Ashworth claims, bur rather the truth is a senior shadow minister has no faith in their demi-god Corbyn.

Funny how they've been incredibly quiet.
remarkably so ^^^

Although I have to say.....if, as reported, the guy was a friend of Ashworth, then he a complete and utter a5seh0le for releasing the tape (although I'm glad he did - anything, literally anything, to avoid Labour in its current guise achieving power has to be a good thing).
was Greig Baker the friend?
Ashworth should know there is no such thing as friends in politics, especially when the friend is a Tory and you are a Labourite.
even if he was joking, many a true word spoken in jest!
