I think is, from what I have read and listened to over the years, that we unilaterally offered a better deal to EU citizens in the UK than the EU did for UK citizens in the EU.

But blocking the deal (which isn’t going to happen) would not stop the UK leaving.
The EU had never been able to stop the UK leaving. That presumably is why Article 50 is as it is.
In fact a no deal scenario would surely make it worse for EU citizens?

Common sense will prevail; neither side would dare put citizens, either EU in UK, or UK in EU in jeopardy, & for once Verhofstadt is right to raise the issue, which has already been understood even by T. May's deal, though it isn't written in stone as yet & should be ruled out as a 'bargaining chip' by Boris asap, which I'm sure he will.

She tried to get British citizenship but it was ridiculous. Questions about Kings, Queens and cricket and god knows what. Most of which I (a native Brit) wouldn’t know the answer to. She’s buying a house with my son so they’d better not deport her.

Cloverjo //Lithuania is a member of the European Union, apart from that & above all, she appears to be married to a British citizen, so as long as she wants to remain in the UK, use the NHS & all social services, she can do so. I doubt though that in the future other members of her Lithuanian family & friends will be able to freely enter the UK & do similarly, (which is, to a large part, what Brexit was about).

The solution to this problem of European/UK citizens rights (particularly in relation to free movement of persons) is that we should agree that anyone born before Brexit within the European union, has the right to reside in any European country (including the UK) as birthright.

There would then be no issue as to who does and who does not have these rights.
