I understand that the money has been spend designing and supplying the fireworks in Sydney, but as a mark of respect and in support for the people affected by the bush fires, they should not let them off this time.

"Since when did events abroad become off limits for discussion here?"
never! there are 20 answers discusing this event abroad!
And among them there are several refusing to discuss it bednobs - yours included.
bednobs think we can discuss anything we want within Site Rules. It's not an exclusive UK issues site. xxx
I do have an opinion and it is that the firework display should not go ahead. If the firefighters (both employed and voluntary) were asked I wonder how they would feel.
Of course the fireworks should go ahead. It's New Year.
Sorry bednobs misread your post pls accept my apologies for my comments. I was totally out of order.

You would need a heart of stone not to laugh......all previous answers on hundreds of threads considered.
Maybe we could start the 'night night' thread early, that would help.
There are loads of events riding on the fireworks going ahead (some of them considerably pricey) It makes sense to go ahead with the display and use the event to raise money for all of the causes related to the bush fires. https://www.sydneynewyearseve.com/events/
Not till the 31st naomi24
Erm ..... we're talking about the 31st, Tony. That's what the fireworks are all about.
I doubt it Douglas, I have to whizz round Tesco first anyway.
sorry got my funny (not) head on tonight.
Not to worry, Tony.
It doesn’t look like the Aussies are in the least bit bothered.

the moneys already spent, so...may cheer some people up, and stifle the rest, i dont know.
Money already spent. Let the show commence. Happy new year, enjoy the spectacular fireworks, show the world Sydney’s magnificent display.
I assumed that the debate about the fireworks was owing to worries about sparks setting off another blaze in an already hot and dry area, not hand-wringing or anything like that.
For me, (and I loathe fireworks for the fear they cause and the damage they do) the only argument in this case is that it would be stupid to add more smoke and particulate matter to an already polluted environment....but as I said it may be that once installed, the safest course is to fire them.
