Trouble is the gun lobby is so powerful in the states , that things won't change anytime soon
Added to the fact that votes are uppermost in the minds of those that could at least try and do something - makes it even less likely to change

I have spoken numerous times about what I believe to be the 'frontier' psyche of Americans as a nation.
That, coupled with the serious money to be made from gun sales, and the political and fiscal power of the NRA, means that no Democratic President can ever attempt to make serious inroads on the gun laws, it would be political suicide.
President Obama made a few noises in his last term with nothing to lose, but was careful not to go too far, and alienate votes for his potential Democratic successor.
Donald Trump has a win-win all the way - he thinks guns are a great idea, so he can pump up right wing guns nuts and transfer their self-righteous nonsense nonsense thinking into votes for his second term.

I think the notion of limiting purcheses to twelve guns a year is a nonsense.
It will annoy the gun supporters, and it will annoy the anti-gun supporters as well - it's meaningless, and it looks like exactly what it is, a mealy-mouthed attempt to look like pleasing both sides, while actually pleasing neither.
Doing nothing would be more productive than this piffle.
