Keir Starmer has been urged by Party chairman, Ian Lavery, to ‘stand aside’ so the party can have first woman leader. ”We’ve got Rebecca Long-Bailey - Baileyism”, he said.

Oh joy! Would you agree that the Labour Party has enough problems without making even more room for its potty ‘right on’ ideas?

"Labour Party chairman Ian Lavery has urged Sir Keir Starmer to stand aside as a contender in the leadership race so the party can have its first female leader."

That's the first line of the article. If accurately reported, it's about sex/gender not an individual. Keir alone must stand aside.
It's not PC cobras ttt. It's Corbynista cobras.

Starmer is the clear favourite according to the bookies, which is why a somewhat desperate request for him to stand down has been made.
I agree with Ludwig ^
either way, its not his business to ask people who are legitimately in the race to "stand aside" for any reason
so why did Ian Lavery say: "...so the party can have first woman leader." - rather than "so the party can another Corbynite"
TTT. if this was about wanting a female leader why did he only mention Long-Bailey and not the other female candidates?

// That's the first line of the article. If accurately reported, it's about sex/gender not an individual. Keir alone must stand aside. //

Starmer is favourite, Bailey is second, Nandy and Nugee aren't really in the running.

If Nandy was second or Jess Philips was still in it and coming second, I guarantee you there would be no request for Starmer to stand aside.

It is about politics. The stuff about wanting a female leader is cobras. They want a Corbyn acolyte.
so why would the Labour party chairman say "...so the party can have first woman leader" ??
So he could disguise the fact that he wanted a Corbynite which would not go down well with some of the members.
She will be the first woman leader, but, that's coincidental to wanting her, specifically, as leader regardless of gender.
> so why would the Labour party chairman say "...so the party can have first woman leader" ??

Because he's a politician, so he says one thing while having a different agenda. He might even want what he's saying, but the really important thing is what he's not saying.
crikey, danny have you nicked ZM's jelly and nails?
//so why would the Labour party chairman say "...so the party can have first woman leader" ??//

So he can fool the PC brigade into backing him up? He'd get more support saying that than he would saying he wants Corbyn Mark 2.
No, he's just seeing things slightly differently than you Tora. As am I. He's stepping aside so that she can be leader. It is a side issue that she's female but the press are obfuscating (quite cleverly) in an effort to make the issue seem to be about gender.
// so why would the Labour party chairman say "...so the party can have first woman leader" ?? //

Because he's a LIAR.
I never had you down for being so naïve ttt.
Tora is sometimes blind to the more subtle aspects of a given situation. It's a trait which often gets him in difficulties and leads him to accuse people (mainly me) of using jelly and nails when he can't see those subtleties.
right oh!
ZM: "Tora is sometimes blind to the more subtle aspects of a given situation. " - we are talking about the Labour party here are we not? PMSL!
//Tora is sometimes blind to the more subtle aspects of a given situation. It's a trait which often gets him in difficulties and leads him to accuse people (mainly me) of using jelly and nails when he can't see those subtleties//

I think you do him a disservice here. I reckon he knows full well what was meant and you can't see when you're being trolled!
You could well be right there Mozz. If that is the case tho, Tora expends an awful lot of energy in arguing any given case which he doesn't actually believe. If that constitutes 'trolling' then it's a bit of a daft passtime.
