I think Keir Starmer will be the new Tony Blair and eventually attract back into the Labour party those middle of the road voters who could not stomach Corbyns extreme right wing strategy. Rebecca long bailey is corbyns female evil twin so rock on.....if she becomes 'leader' t'will be the end of the Labour party -in my opinion , of course.

It was added in a way that simply isn't done for other politicians, and often in a deliberately critical way: "... a London elite millionaire ignoring a democratic instruction."

Whether or not that is a reasonable opinion is irrelevant: it has no place in an encyclopedia.

Its naïve to assume Labour candidates need to have just come up from T'pit to serve the working man. A diversity of different backgrounds and cultures always works better and no one should be criticised for being too rich or too poor to be an acceptable candidate.

So, it's less offensive to claim you want male contenders to step aside for a female one, than it is to say you want to continue the same losing formula as before for, and so want any obstacle to that to step aside ?

I see no value in claiming that there was no reason to include the outsiders in the statement; and that just gave a wrong impression. There was no reason to omit them and claim sexism is the reason. This just indicates that the party clearly needs to replace many at the top before becoming a legitimate option for government. Wish they'd get on with it.

You are forgetting that these comments are not addressed at rational people OG. They are addressed at the membership of the Labour party.

They don't see electing a woman because she's a woman as sexism. They see it as positive discrimination.

But I repeat, he's not interested in that. If it was a two horse race between Starmer and say Jess Philips (a moderate and Corbyn critic) there's no way he'd be suggesting that Starmer should stand down. He wants Long Bailey (a loony and Corbyn acolyte) installed .

On Thursday's Question Time, one of the panellists said that the Labour Party membership had been polled recently about whom they considered the greatest ever Labour Party leader. Blair, despite delivering three consecutive general election wins, came nowhere; Attlee, despite leading the great reforming administration following WW2 and introducing the welfare state, came nowhere; Ramsay MacDonald, despite being the first Labour prime minister, came nowhere. The out-and-out winner, with more than 70% of the votes, was Corbyn. And that's the problem! They may as well disband, or rename themselves the Communist Party.

As a former party member for most of my adult life, it just breaks my heart to view their spiral into the political abyss. But, it's entirely of their own doing. They have no-one to blame but themselves.

Obviously, the AB membership is predominantly right-wing; that's not a criticism per se, just a statement of fact.

But even the most ardent dyed-in-the-wool Tory must surely accept that a successful country needs a strong government AND a strong opposition, otherwise it's little better than a dictatorship.
