Dire Coverage Of Brexit Celebrations

A pretty appalling show from the BBC last night. The camera zoomed over the assembled throng in Parliament Square, Mr Farage was seen standing on stage, but where was his speech? Instead of him we got Emily Whatshername prattling on. Did any of the television companies offer a fitting tribute to this momentous occasion in this country’s history? It appears, once again, that the BBC just couldn’t bring itself to report as it should - honestly.

i confess that i didn't stay up to watch, they had Riz Lateef early on in Parliament Square, chatting with those congregating but i think that the BBC didn't want to show it later on

Sky seemed to do a decent coverage of both Parliament square and Brighton where a candlelit vigil was being held

The BBC didn't show his speech either, Emmie. Seems both they and ITN ignored it.

Quite a lot of coverage of happy Leave voters on Today this morning, mixed -- as it should be, since the country remains split -- with a few sad Remainers.

I don't want to listen to voters, Jim. I know what the majority of those think. I would like to have seen Nigel Farage speak. After all, without him Brexit wouldn't have happened and therefore, he is the man who should have had centre stage.

I can't remember what he said word for word, but Today also gave him a decent amount of air time.

I'm sure Farage could share his speech verbatim some other way. I'm not altogether sure why the BBC needs to broadcast it in its entirety. They acknowledged the celebrations and covered them in some depth.

I wouldn't expect you to be sure, Jim - but jolly good of the BBC to 'acknowledge' the celebrations.

For the BBC to satisfy everyone in the UK it needs perhaps 17,410,742 channels in addition to the present ones.

Karl, I don't think it's too much to ask that the BBC broadcast the celebrations in our capital city and allow their viewers to join in.

The BBC could hardly do more than acknowledge, though. Ignoring would be wrong -- and so would endorsing. The middle ground, unpalatable as it may be for those who wish to join the celebrations, is covering without taking a position.

The Last Leg, Channel 4, marked the occasion by Adam Hill's Brexit beard being shaved off and considering that one of his 'barbers' was handling a razor in a non-existant hand he was very brave!
