surely someone could have spoken out, it's an appalling case when you read what he did to women and men, glad he got a high sentence. Let's hope he's not one who does half his time and gets' out

An independent inquiry into Ian Paterson's malpractice has recommended the recall of his 11,000 patients for their surgery to be assessed.
Easy - surgeons are like priests - God on earth - challenge them at your peril.
Question Author
he basically violated them and i can see no reason for it.
I recall the shock and horror at the time of his sentencing when it came out how long before the suspicions were raised but not acted upon.

Makes you shudder, those poor ladies and their families.
It's the same 'God' complex that infects priests - they are surrounded by people who tell them how wonderful they are all day every day, and no-one ever challenges them, even if they know something is wrong.

That can lead the warped mind to indulge this invincibility to harm people with impunity, which simply re-enforces their superiority complex with each passing day.
What a sadistic ***
the report is here

it is worth a read
there is along chapter on pt experiences wh the pts want you to know about but have a sameness about them
(I sat there stummed and then he plunged a scalpel into me and shouted o keep still damn you. the rest of the room did nothing as if they had seen it all before) or if nothing had happened because it didnt

and the committees who should have done something all nodded and clucked -really there was nothing to do besides shuffle papers after all we are administrators

and the whistle blowers complain - and the authorities turned round and said No YOU are the bad doctors and it is off to the GMC for you !

and the GMC said - who ever gets reported to us gets well and truly screwed, have you ever wondered why there are no volunteers in corona virus? Because we struck off the ebola workers and now no one will work

Because the cases i assume didn't comunicate with eachother or meet up on a forum to leave reviews about the man for people to come to a collective agrement that he's a shoddy malpractising ***.

but why perform totally unnecessary surgery, that is what i can't get my head around, many women didn't have cancer but he performed mastectomies all the same
I must be an odd bod then, have argued to toss with many a Priest and challenged Doctors.

Some don't have the strength if they are frail and hurting too much.

What about all the other medical staff in the operating room at the time, anaesthetist etc. Were they all on their phones and not watching what he was doing or saw what he was doing and kept their mouths shut?
emmie - // but why perform totally unnecessary surgery, that is what i can't get my head around, many women didn't have cancer but he performed mastectomies all the same //

I refer you to my response at 17:00.

Why did he butcher these women? Because he could, that's why.
ladybirder - // What about all the other medical staff in the operating room at the time, anaesthetist etc. Were they all on their phones and not watching what he was doing or saw what he was doing and kept their mouths shut? //

The latter - please see my post at 16:51, and a further assessment at 17:00.
Women had the treatment he advised...I am sure that many people, on hearing a cancer diagnosis would do exactly what the doctor told them to do without argument. We assume that they know best. I was concerned to see that the red flag was raised 8 years ago...to people knowledge ... and it still took this amount of time for him to get to court. I am of the opinion that people must have suspected years ago but were too scared to raise the alarm. The whole thing is shocking
Apologies for the typo but glad it gave you a chance for some crudeness TD - happy now?

...'Argued the toss'

I'm off now if that's where we've descended to.

Shocking is right, there must be others who are as
complicit, they should be in the dock alongside this piece of filth
Question Author
don;t go Mamy your input is valued..
emmie - // Shocking is right, there must be others who are as

They should, but they won't.

Botched and inappropriate surgery is provable in a court of law, silent complicity is not.
I have just read part of the report on this case and it turns out he was overbearing and a bit of a bully...I think that would go a long way to stopping women, at a time they are very vulnerable, just going along with what they were told to do by this ...er ...person.
