Not sure when it flies and for who at the palace O_G
If the Union Flag flies above Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle or Sandringham House, it signals that the Queen is not in residence. In 1934, King George V permitted his subjects in Scotland to display the ancient Royal Standard of Scotland as part of his silver jubilee. Today, it flies above Holyrood Palace and Balmoral Castle when the Queen is not in residence.[1]

Yeah okay, your very humble .... lol
If the protocol is that the flag is flown on the Duke of York's birthday then it doesn't bother me.
if you accept a system of royal family, then you have to accept their traditions, and the fact that some of them are likely to be nobs
Nothing to be sorry for Martin.
MartinMillar, thanks for the info - something new for me.
Our county council has declared no flag for andy. Phew.
Would anyone notice if the flag were or not flown for the Duke of York?
And where was mine the other day anyway? ;)
A slimy man (in my opinion) but not convicted of any crime. If this is tradition, so be it.
never mind the flag, beware the bells...

''A spokeswoman for the central London church told the PA news agency: “Westminster Abbey is a Royal Peculiar and the bells are rung for the birthdays of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh; their children; and TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children.''
The bells, the bells, Esmeralda ..... ooer! :o)
My underpants will be flapping in the wind on the washing line in his honour.
