I heard on the news that the government wants to get “rough sleepers” off the streets in order to stem the virus.
How about getting them off the streets, into a room at least, so they can have some kind of life?

There are some who don't want to go because they would find their addictions harder to maintain.

Rough sleepers off the streets, as much money as it takes to sort out the NHS and the economy? Good god almighty, we're all going to hell in a hand cart.

The general idea seems to be to get homeless people off the street, not to help them but to stop them being a portal for CV.

at a guess, I'd say Boris did not get the virus from a homeless person.

that is what is being proposed, to get them into shelters, homes, somewhere safe....

Cloverjo, Wouldn’t it be even more horrible to leave them out on the streets exposed to danger? Social problems can’t be resolved instantly but this is one solution to keeping vulnerable people as safe as possible right now.

One wonders why, if the have the accommodation and ability to get folk into it now, why it wasn't done before the virus issue. Many are going to object to being inside though. Hope they have good guards on the doors.

The idea is very laudable. But it hasn't a hope in Hell's chance of working. In fact, if anything, it may cause more cross contamination than it solves. Imagine this - a homeless person who has spent some time on the streets. Although it may not be his choice, he is used to being outside. Suddenly, not only is he to be confined to barracks (probably a small room) but he is not allowed out except for essential purposes. It's not going to work. Many of them - especially now the weather is improving - will simply not cope with their confinement, will leave the premises and, even if they come back, will mix with their fellow homeless when out and about.

I would be interested in finding out the demographics of the people with the virus, those that have died and what their job is.

I would suspect that if the virus takes hold in the homeless community it would be devastating but I wonder how many, if at all, deaths have been homeless people.
