I'd volunteer to accept a free allocation in order to help out, too.
Real ales have a very short shelf life. I used to run a bowls club bar and any real ales we had delivered would usually need to be used up within a fortnight at the very most. They could often be 'past their best' in under a week.

Keg beers don't have particularly long shelf lives either. At the end of each bowls season, in September, I had to carefully manage the our stocks, so that we'd hardly any beer left when we closed our doors until the following April. (There was absolutely no way that kegs purchased in September could be used in April. The shelf life of a keg of lager is usually only two or three months, at the very most).

I'm sure that we could find a few ABers to volunteer to drink some of the stuff though ;-)
No thank you .a wee port and lemon maybe .
now that IS a crisis!
I lived in a pub. Stock takes are done daily. Not just to make sure we have enough but to make sure it's in date.
I don't drink beer but ...sob. :o(
Says a lot for stocking up on IPA in the future. :-)
They need to get creative and find another use for it:

I recently read an item on how a brewery had the very same problem. They offered it to any applicant, company or private individual to take it off their hands for free. This was not in Britain (surprise ?).
With only nine replies to this looks like not many are Carling all that much ..... sorry
Is canned beer different?
Why has keg/barrel beer got such a short shelf life?
Yes, canned / bottled beer will last much longer.

Here's the reason that keg beer has such a relatively short shelf life:

things in tins are in a vaccum. Kegs of beer are not vacuum sealed like cans, real ale is has about a fortnight max. gas pumped kegs can last about 3 months, some are pasturised so last a bit longer.
Always an education here on AB....
Thanks jim and ttt
CAMRA never lies.
nailit because it starts to ferment and go off.
great more fish dying off if the milk drained hasn't finished them already
dunno why they tipped the milk away, they usually spray that on the fields.
That's why I mentioned IPA earlier. It stands for India Pale Ale and continues to ferment once bottled. It lasts the journey between the UK and the,one time, military garrisons out in India so it hadn't gorn orf by the time it reached India after a long sea journey.
