Five Weeks Of Lies
For five weeks now Matt Hancock has insisted that there wasn't a shortage of PPE, nearly every hospital and care home in the country was saying there was, he also insisted that it was a logistical problem only, and that was with 20 thousand army personal drivers ready to deliver. When the army joined us, we were told, this is what the army are brilliant at ( logistics ) ?
Today he says he wished he had a magic wand to produce PPE. When will Mr Hancock face up to the fact that the UK was oh so slow off the starting block, and the cost of that, was peoples lives, especially NHS lives. When will he start telling the truth, ( never).
They've also been telling us that we don't need to wear a face mask,(now their thinking about it), but waiting for the science to tell them. Common sense tells me that face masks can help stop the spread of the virus, if they didn't, then the rest of the world wouldn't be wearing them, or nurses wearing them in hospital or care homes, ( when they can get them) We all know about the top of the range mask that they need to wear in ITC, but the rest of the nurses are wearing bog standard face masks.
There are now UK manufactures pulling out all the stops to produce PPE, they say they have be ignored by Matt Hancock for weeks now, even after making it known to him that they could make what was required. How many more lives need to be lost before they supply the nation with face masks like every other country is doing.
I've changed my mind about Mr Hancock,( give someone a chance to get sorted,) he's had five weeks, and all we've had is five weeks of lies. Whatever advice he or the government give out, I for one will take with a pinch of salt, and do my own thing.

teacake is definitely a gloom and doom merchant, as I have opined before, BUT I don't like Matt Hancock and don't think he's up to the job, so I agree with him here (for a change).

14.26 At my age I'm not scared at all, I've had a good life, just pointing out to the young that are being lied to. As for being a scaremonger not the case when other folk are posting on the same subject, and its on TV 24/7, just giving my opinion, everyone has a choice of not reading or responding to my threads.
I don't think there's any real room for argument that more people survive Covid-19 than die from it. Whether that's really a "positive" from the point of view the 150,000+ dead, their families and friends, though...
Oh, and the current confirmed death toll from Covid is likely to be an underestimate, either because of delays in reporting (UK etc), cover-ups (China probably), choosing to count only deaths among confirmed cases rather than likely cases (Spain), or from other reasons. To be honest, I find the idea that "most of us will survive" is a positive to be fairly distasteful. Despite reports to the contrary, this isn't an assessment born of pessimism, merely of fact.

Well, it may be true in the UK for all I know, but I'm speaking worldwide. But even in the UK the official death toll is lagging behind the true death toll, albeit for a clear and logical reason: hospital data is easier to gather and track, and it's not a "lie" to say that 15,464 people in the UK so far are known to have died in hospitals from Covid. But the picture we have both in the UK and worldwide is clearly incomplete.
I was disturbed, for example, by reports that in Ecuador the official death toll is 400-odd, but that in one province there alone there was an excess mortality of 5,700 or so over the fortnightly average. It's likely that we'll never know the true death toll.

Not all deaths said to be covid-19 related have been tested. From the ONS site,
"These figures are different from the daily surveillance figures on COVID-19 deaths published by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) on the GOV.UK website, for the UK as a whole and its constituent countries. Figures in this report are derived from the formal process of death registration and may include cases where the doctor completing the death certificate diagnosed possible cases of COVID-19, for example, where this was based on relevant symptoms but no test for the virus was conducted. Our figures also include any deaths that occur outside hospital."

You could say the same about any disease that has the potential to kill people. The families of the victims of terminal cancer aren’t cheering either but it doesn’t follow that cancer kills everyone it touches and the rest of us should spend our lives dragging our chins on the ground because of what ‘could’ happen. We're living in troubled times but people need to keep a sense of proportion and maintain a positive outlook because the fact is that far more people recover from this virus than die from it. This constant negativity does no one any good whatsoever. It’s depressing, and in the current climate when the mental well-being of the population as a whole is being compromised, that in itself is damaging. For goodness sake stop doom-mongering. It’s not clever. It’s wholly irresponsible.

^^^I couldn't possibly agree more with Naomi if I tried.
The majority of people who become infected will survive.
If you remove the old and/or those with an underlying condition from those that have died, then the undeniable fact of the matter (so there's no point arguing about it) is the vast vast majority will survive.
My understanding is it's something like 99% of deaths are of the old and vulnerable - doesn't make it any less sad, but it does prove the death rate for others is tiny.
Young and healthy people who have died are newsworthy because they are exceptional; they are the exceptions that prove the rule.
If we can take something positive from this crappy situation, it is the low death rate.

But, but, but......there are some positives..... This virus is only killing men and women, Males or Females.......this is according to the Beep Beep See itself you see. So the other 98 genders are thriving, blooming, striding out to pastures new, as they should, whilst they celebrate.......or count the bodies.
