First things first, I agree that they must be held responsible for any crimes committed, particularly criminal damage of property they have taken root on. If they left places in the same state they left them, they would find that people are more accepting of them.

On what basis? Despite everything, they have rights. Driving bans cannot be handed out without reason, and property cannot be confiscated without reason. If they have commited a criminal offence, or own the vehicle illegally, then no problem, but otherwise it's just not doable.

That's a grey area. Can prople be nicked and profiled without reason? I'm no expert (maybe RC can comment on the legality of this), but it seems dodgy.

To me, this sounds like the old "pulling someone over for a broken headlight" ploy. Making up faults just so vehicles can be removed. Our police force is better than that.

It's the same lot that have been there before. They camp in the tennis club car park and they like it because they can use the showers there - the staff are probably too scared to tell them they are not entitled to. It's made the news because there is a Covid testing centre nearby. They'll clear off again in the future and then come back again. It's not news really.

police pull them over in every county they drive through and inspect there cars and trailer homes, safety and all that, and for any stolen items reported from burglaries in previous towns they drove thorugh or stopped in, harass them off the road or back to ireland, they are parasitic invaders, like fleas, do thye add any postitves to society.

They won't go back to Ireland because they tightened up the trespass laws in 2002 - that's why they came over here. There's is talk of doing the same in this country but it's too late really.

The Traveller Tribes are from all over, not just Ireland and I would hazard a guess if they did a genetic test only a few would be true Romany but that really does matter to them. Many towns in the UK have settlements of them, they either buy up bricks and mortar houses in a certain area or they harass the council until they give in and let them put their permanent caravans on agricultural land. A few towns do have legal permanent sites.
Nothing can be done about them travelling the roads as its not illegal to pull a caravan on a public road but it is illegal to park on private property. Problem is they take no notice of the Law and they know how long it takes to get an eviction order so know at least they will have a couple of weeks of free camping. They play the 'Heritage' Card 'following their ancestors' and all that bull -a bit like the Inuit being allowed to kill whales in Canada. I doubt there is anything anyone will ever be able to do about them.

Agreed. The plods are there to stop crime and arrest criminals, so if they're not up to that most basic of job requirements, something needs to be done.
