We Are Not Doing So Badly
As, alas. there are a few idiots all too ready to make political capital out of an unforseen tragedy it would seem our current UK Government is managing quite well.
Whilst denigrating the efforts of those in power here there were many who held aloft South Korea as a shining example of how to eradicate this virus. Sadly it would appear that it is not yet all over for S. Korea and China are experiencing 4,000 new cases a day. So much for easing lock down in Wuhan. Have they jumped the gun? It is obvious that population density plays a great part as well as many other considerations but it demonstrates that no nation can feel smug or complacent as to how they have fared during this Global emergency.

"Apart from that, how did you like the play, Mrs Lincoln?"
Britain's biggest mistake was getting off the mark very slowly indeed. WHO published their first report early in the New Year. Australia closed its borders at the start of February, when nobody at all had died. At that stage Britain hadn't even advised people against travelling to China. By the time Britain imposed a lockdown in late March, about 350 people were already dead.
We've been playing catch-up ever since. Countries that got in quickly have had a fraction of the deaths here.
So: 37,400 British deaths. 103 in Australia. Britain has I think got about three times the population of Australia but 374 times as many deaths. That can't just be explained away by population density. It's very poor.
Also, Britain is hampered by being run by a man. Among the countries that are doing okay are Germany, Finland, Iceland, Taiwan and New Zealand - all with women in charge. We shoulda stuck with May :-)

Interesting observation jno, but I am not at all sure that your conclusion is on the main point. Is it not more likely that it is a matter of cultural differences which lead to a better approach, one of which includes choosing good leaders who sometimes are female and at others male, rather than overwhelmingly male with the smell of misogyny permeating everything.
//well, you saw what happened when Boris "fought" it: into the ICU. Whereas May seems to be still standing. //
Boris fought it and won on a technicality. Corvid takes no prisoners or understands weak cowardly female Prime Ministers.
Strong tenacious, resolute and useful female Prime Ministers are the way to go.
Perhaps you would like Eddie Balls wife to run the country. That would be a balls up.
the OP seems to be happily diverting his own thread, with the help of trusted chums, but just to reiterate: Yes, Britain is doing badly.
It has the second highest death toll (though Brazil will overhaul it sooner or later). Its per capita toll is now worse than Italy's, and approaching Spain's. There is nothing to be remotely comfortable with.
