Each time I log onto my e-mail provider, they currently show me a video of the US astronauts rocket lift-off, and each time it fascinates and frightens me. Would I do it ? No way. But no astronaut is going to be a few stars short of a galaxy, so undoubtedly these two guys are brave IMHO.
Here's wishing them good luck in the docking with the International Space Station later on today (3:30pm BST).
None ttt, just an observation. And no, I don't think they were faked, although I know a couple of elderly people who really do. And they are not imbeciles. At all.
10cs all the so called "anomalies" are explain ad nauseam a thousand times in a thousand place. The hoaxers however never seem to have an explanation for the questions we ask. eg how did the reflector marix(put there by Buzz A) that is used to bounce a laser off to measure the distance between the moon and earth pretty well every day get up there?
pixie - "I know a couple of elderly people who really do. And they are not imbeciles. At all. " - I'm afraid they are imbeciles. There is no evidence they did not go and overwhelming evidence they did, QED! They have probably been taken in by the conspiracy theory industry.
dont blame me canary, I didn't start the moon hoax idiocy. Look at my post at 14:59 I started in a good way here. Apologies but I will never let the morons win when it comes to the moon landings.
I have to say though, TTT, that laser reflector project was a bit baffling, (for me anyway!) when you consider that the Reagan STI was inoperable because the proposed use of laser technology wouldn't work, due to Earths gravity bending the laser beams. I often wondered why they weren't affected with the moon reflector. Need clever and knowledgeable people to answer that please!
because they are shot up perpendicular to the Earth. TBH though even Horizontally the earth will only bend light very slightly. Do you have a link to this claim?
The sort who undertake these endeavours are a special breed, the docking with ISS went like clockwork as did the launch - a marvellous effort all round and a treat to watch so clearly.
SDI was inoperative for many reasons though, SDI was primarily a political project designed to over tax the USSR budget and win the cold war. A lot of it was pie in the sky technologically.
True, they are hardly stepping into unknown territory but they are undoubtedly brave. I wish them a successful mission and, eventually, safe return.
As for conspiracy theorists; do any of them actually realise just how many people have to be 'in on it and to keep schtum for it to work. Whoever it was who said, "One person can keep a secret, but not two" never spoke a truer word.
ken: "As for conspiracy theorists; do any of them actually realise just how many people have to be 'in on it and to keep schtum for it to work. " - no, they are imbeciles. They are the same people who tell us that governments can run a peace up in a brewery yet can arrange such a complex ruse.
Brave yes, but I bet there are any number of minions in the space department who would willingly go in their place. What a shame Stephen Hawkings didn't live long enough to go up in one of Elon Musk's passenger craft.
The nearest I ever got to a rocket was in Nov 2008 when we were on Coco Beach in Florida to watch the night time lauch of the shuttle Endeavor, mission number STS-126. An absolutely awesome, unforgetable experience.
