oh dear - no bites at all

not so much test and fake as test and lie
or dont test and cover up

the idea in the back of my mind - is that the covid epidemic is agreed to be lessening
and the measures taken to lessen it are far from efficient or work at all.....
so why is the covid epidemic lessening considering over 50% of us are still at risk ?

and a connected q- it has killed 38 000 here and how many in the slums of Bombay - one
A pointless exercise and a total waste of money now.

Still, its probably best to push forward so the techniques are perfected for the next virus from China.

deffo, this isn't the first pandemic and it won't be the last.
nice to see crazy conspiracy theorist posting on a serious thread

the point Matty and I share is that the numbers have to be really low in order to get track trace and shoot to work properly
PP do we know that the Bombay figures is correct?
From the link:
But this programme has exclusively seen a leaked copy of data showing how it was operating in its first few days.
It shows less than half the contacts reported to NHS Test and trace by those who had tested positive had actually been reached by contact tracers.
I'm not sure what your issue is, TD- after a few days what proportion of contacts do you think should have been contacted?
I think it needs to be given a week or so to bed in.
Matt Hancock is not the only one to say it was working well. Professor Newton also said it. They may be trying to create a positive climate and may be overstating how well it's going, but any test and trace is better than none. It's scientists running this- is this the one Dido is running (no White Flag jokes please)- so hopefully people will cut Hancock and Boris some slack for a bit

Incidentally test and trace is not some Matt Hancock initiative- it is a tried and trusted system that's been used for many decades by NHS/Public Health for infection control and is done in other countries too. Maybe it should have started earlier but testing was initially given to prioritised groups like NHS staff
^ That was really for youngmafbog who said test and trace was "A pointless exercise and a total waste of money now". I think it's the total opposite - I cannot see any argument against it- and certainly the scientists have relied on it many times before.

oh woof yeah or no
Braheel they are dying like flies - dead bodies as we all know from Miss Marple are most difficult to conceal

and India hardly at all
Bangla - dying in large numbers ( 2x) but ethnic Indians ( 1.7 x)

Egypt where I was and I swear I had it - 5000 cases and 500 deaths but you are right a fligh-full from Luxor has just reinfected S Korea

Nice to see you posting - my god there is some dross on teevee and AB this am

As many as they stated, which was a lie.
>As many as they stated, which was a lie

What was the lie TD- did they state any numbers? I thought they had been careful not to.

The only thing I heard which I thought sounded like an exaggeration/mistake/ lie was when Boris said thousands had been traced.
I really think easing the lockdown is toooo early, to early to risky
Maybe, poorclare, but that's a separate debate which is covered on lots of threads.
haven't watched teevee this morning, been cutting down brambles from my tortoise pen. One of them wandered of to aesthivate during the hot spell and hasn't re emerged, she is a so and so for doing it but its a bit worrying...at least today I have established that the enclosure is sound so she must still be in there...she is a so and so and has got social isolation down to a fine art.

ok chat over, as you were
It has turned into a shambles.

The original (correct) plan was to implement automated tracing done on Smart phones. That would have identified people who had been in close proximity to people confirmed as testing positive.
That would have meant tests were done on people most likely to have been infected, and increased the effectiveness of the tracing, and limiting further spread.

Manual tracing by cold calling and a questionnaire which would be very labour intensive, expensive and more hit and miss, was supposed to be a secondary measure - more of a mopping up exercise of those who slip through the net (by not owning a Smartphone for example).

But because the Phone app is a long time off being ready, the manual system has been brought to the forefront as the primary method of tracking, and will probably yield poor results.
has your tort not got an app, woofgang?
lol Jno, she won't have one of those new fangly things
ff, It is a pointless exercise for this episode.

However I did qualify that by saying it could be useful for the next time. Although other countries have used this we have built a new app, I am guessing to try and deal with any privacy issues. It will take time and I do feel it is pointless throwing everything at it now, far better to step back fix the bugs and do it properly, I say this with 30 years of IT development behind me,

"nice to see crazy conspiracy theorist posting on a serious thread"

And just exactly who are you referring to. Apart from your, that as per I cant understand the other posts were fact.
Yes, the app is a separate issue and probably won't work here. It was supposed to enhance the old fashioned established 'shoe leather ' approach but I think things have gone too quiet following the Isle of Wight trial. It works in countries where people are compliant and used to authority but here there are too many concerns over privacy (which I can understand to some extent) and also too many hoaxers/timewasters who will abuse it to mess others about and to make the system fail to discredit the govt
// It was supposed to enhance the old fashioned established 'shoe leather’ approach. //

Nope. The app was supposed to come first and do 90% of the work. The shoe leather was for what was missed.
The old fashioned method is never going to work because there are not enough callers. Just 25,000 to deal with Over a Million a week. It’s just not going to work.
