parsley, it's not so easy to learn to live with something that might kill you. We live with cars because we know how they may kill us, take what precaustions we can and decide whether we want to cross the road. But we still know almost nothing about the virus, so it's very hard to make judgment calls.
Yes, jno, but the flu might kill us (and does), even though we have a vaccine for it. Measles still kills, and is more infectious than Covid 19. We don't hide from these viruses, we take precautions, and live with them. Since Covid 19 has become a notifiable disease, we are obviously more aware of it. Does anyone give a second thought to catching the flu or measles (unless they are extremely vulnerable), do we in effect ruin the economy, and hide away to avoid them?
12.58 your missing one big point, ( this is very contagious ) and spreads like a house on fire, and sadly we have a kamikaze pilot in charge, making erratic and reckless decisions.
Parsley //Yes, jno, but the flu might kill us (and does),//
Usually because of an underlying respiratory disease and it doesn't kill at the same rate as Covid19.
parsley, yes, and I have a flu jab every year. And mostly it does work though there are some years it doesn't. But there isn't any Covid jab at all, and there's no cure if we catch it except keeping our fingers crossed, so we're still way behind being able to compare the two ailments as like-for-like.
Yes T/C , we have a P/M who thinks only of himself , and he will say anything that will make him appear to look good in the eyes of the public. Even though it is all a pack of Lies. Sigh.
Teacake44, I don't believe that. The daily figures for deaths and infection rates have been going down steadily for some time now, and this was after the relaxation of lockdown at the beginning of June. What erratic and reckless decisions have been made? Do you really believe there should have been no relaxation of lockdown, for 15 deaths (which was a daily figure last week, I think)? The longer we go on like this, the greater the number of deaths from other (seemingly forgotten) diseases, like undiagnosed cancers. Viruses infect people, it is a fact of life (and sometimes death), we can't hide away or ignore that fact.
God help anyone who falls ill in the winter months, because you will be on your own, and this virus will have Jul, Aug, Sept, to go wild, and you can say good bye to any kids going back to school. Pubs open, schools closed ? sheesh, But there's tax on booze?
PD, carry on fooling yourself if you wish ( 15 deaths? I think you missed the following day my friend 177.
@dannyk13, the vast majority of people who have died from Covid 19 have had underlying or existing health conditions. Covid 19 may kill more, because we don't yet have herd immunity. I don't have a link, but doctors' in Italy (I think) are already seeing a weakening of the Covid 19 virus and its effects on newly infected people, they believe it is going the same way as Sars.
Parsley // they believe it is going the same way as Sars.//
I sincerely hope so.
Teacake, I am not fooling myself. The death (and infection) rate from Covid 19 has reduced dramatically. Do you expect people, business, the government to put life on hold until there are no deaths from Covid 19? Meanwhile, cancer deaths soar, because people are not being seen early enough for a diagnosis or treatment, or screening has been suspended?
I expect the government to do what they said they must do from the word go, but they've gone against their own plan. TRACK AND TRACE IN PLACE!! before any such move. Instead they played with an app for a month, that they were told would never work. Remember the world beating one, so now he's gone into Kamikaze mode, because he's lost in space.
Parsley, teacake, along with a couple of others, has an obsession with Boris and the government. If you are trying to make him see sense then you are wasting your time.
^^ wait and see, who's right.
Thank you dannyk13.

In answer to the Track and Trace, it is only as good as the people that use it. Surely it was right of the government once it was realised the "app" wasn't going to work, to cut its losses, even if that reflected badly on them?
In difficult situations most people learn by their mistakes, and this is a difficult situation for any government, the latter has been said many times on here, and I agree, but there has now been to many mistakes, this one this week will be as bad if not worse than the late lockdown. Boris never learns, he is down right scatty.
This failed test and trace App only cost £11, million , thats nothing , plenty left on the "Tory Magic Money Tree"
