in all the reports of this, there's no indication that either the store, or the authorities, did anything to stop them, nor that they intend any follow-up.

Is theft justified in the face of need? or does the need itself mean that helping yourself to food is no longer theft?

What's the army going to do?
This country has a history of civil disobedience to confront the establishment to attempt to win justice, and a fairer society.
The Suffragettes are the prime example.
The Poll tax riots probably the most recent.
Yes, poverty sucks, and so many people are in denial, that it will take a wake up call to bring about change.
There is only one country in the whole of Europe that pays less social security than the UK - Malta.

Theft is theft.

If Plod can be bothered to get up from kneeling or stop dancing perhaps they would oblige us by restoring public order and upholding the law. All laws not just the right-on ones they decide to keep.

Poverty is relative, first you need to properly define poverty. Not being able to afford a mobile, big tv or latest trainers is not poverty. Starving is.

In addition I think you are find there are millions around the world in real poverty, not the imagined one in the UK. That is why they are all racing to get here.

Often poverty in this country is caused by not understanding how to manipulate the system to your best advantage. Capita dont help of course.
