So am I. Hong Kong is part of China. The people there (and anywhere else) are naïve in the extreme if they think the Chinese authorities will allow a small part of its territory to have rights not available to the vast majority. It was naïve in 1999 to expect it to prevail and it is even more so now.
HK gave the Chinese a ready made access to international markets as its production burgeoned. I`d say they have now realised that they think they can do it just as well with the people of Hk under the same restraints as those on the mainland.

and naive of us to expect people to have spoken out about it at the time - but hey ho the great and good rule us for our benefit
