do you have to get an exemption note from the doctor Boaty... as some people seem to do if they want to travel by public transport.
Doesn't apply to me.
I hadn't thought of that! :o}
people are being fined for travelling on public trains, buses, without a facemask. some people have exemption letters.
I'll have to get an exemption letter methinks!
good plan Boaty
Yes.

I'm afraid this thread demonstrates the widespread lack of knowledge surrounding this business. You do NOT need a letter or any form of certification to claim exemption from wearing a face covering. If for no other reason, on the list of "reasonable excuses" for not wearing one, five of the seven reasons are not medically related and not something a doctor could provide a note or letter for.
TFL and some other travel companies have exemption cards you can download, otherwise simply tell of your condition if asked.
I would think medical evidence would be needed only if you claimed a medical exemption and your case reached court.
Buenchico has just posted a link that may be of interest to some people here.

There doesn't seem to have been reports of any fines for non-compliance in Scotland, might have missed it.

No it wouldn't for two reasons:

1. If the legislation for wearing face coverings in shops follows that for on public transport, you will be exempt if you have a "reasonable excuse". A non-exhaustive list of seven reasonable excuses is provided and five of them are not medically related and could not be supported by medical evidence.

2. More importantly, because of the way the public transport legislation is worded (and again I assume the shop legislation will be similar) it would be up to the prosecution to prove that the defendant did not have a reasonable excuse, not for him to prove that he did. Of course proving a negative is notoriously difficult and the legislation is badly framed. It says: "No person may, without reasonable excuse, use a public transport service without wearing a face covering." So, the prosecution would have to prove that the defendant was (1) using public transport and (2) did not have a reasonable excuse. Only if they did that would the defendant have a case to answer. I cannot see a successful prosecution under that legislation as it stands if there is no co-operation from the defendant. If you want I'll expand a bit on this tomorrow and in particular the difference between this legislation and S172 of the Road Traffic Act, which requires the Registered Keeper (RK) of a vehicle to provide the driver's details at the time of an alleged offence unless he is unable to. That has been properly framed to require the RK to explain why he cannot name the driver if he wants to avoid conviction for failing to do so. But for now I'm off to bed.
Having worn full ppe (mask, shield & apron) 7hrs each workday, I confirm its stuffy/sweaty/hot causing irratible & headache/migrain. Please wear your mask so workers can remove theirs momentarily.
How does that work?
ich, a question like that requires an indication of to whom is it addressed.
It;s addressed to the previous poster. I didn;t see how people wearing facemasks would enable others to remove their PPE momentarily
It doesnt Ich. Wearing of the mask is 'supposed' to protect others not the wearer. As this virus 'apparently' can be transmitted via other means than direct into the nasal or mouth cavity then no one should be removing the mask.

Of course it is all nonsense. We have all been managing quite well in shops with no masks. This is just another see how far we can push the population with control. Seems they are doing very well at that.

I for one will not be wearing a mask in shops as apart from essential shopping (beer) I wont be going in one any more. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it Hancock. (what an appropriate name)
No, I am not
YES I AM
