//Why the presumption that the role of Moderator opens up the individual to hostility, and that is simply OK by virtue of the individual taking on the role? //
erm...maybe because you confirmed it?
Andy Hughes 10.15 // I think the majority are anonymous, and when the observe the flack that those of us who are identified receive, I would imagine that would want to stay that way!//

I don't see how that is in any way accepting flack as a Moderator, accepting that it happens is not the same as saying that it's OK.

// Andy, I don’t think you receive ‘ flack’ because you are a mod. I have respect for any mod who does not hide behind the curtains. //
Thank you anne - but I have to disagree.
I regularly get posts saying things along the lines of "As a Mod that is beneath you..." and "Do you think that's acceptable, to post that as a Moderator?", and let's not forget the age-old chestnut "How you became / stay as a Moderator is a mystery..."
As I always say in reply - I am an AB'er first and foremost, and I don't respond to threads as a Moderator, I only moderate as a Moderator, and my actions in that role are known only to myself and the Editorial Team.
Ninety-nine per cent of the posts I am accused of deleting I have not actually touched - but I am never going to spin a thread off course by getting into stupid pointless debates with people snarking about things that don't concern them.

I've got no real problem with the mods here, I've done it on other sites, and it's a thankless task, but (there's always a but) I think closing threads without warning/explanation is showing incredible contempt for the users, particularly those involved in the thread. Most people would accept an explanation, even if they didn't agree with the reason. We're not all monsters (well, most of us aren't).
Just my thruppence worth.

I don't think it can be called contempt for members ( no comment on said thread)when we know that Eds aren't online 24/7 these days.
Should the original have been closed after it was tidied up? Probably not but it's done now.
Anyone wishing to discuss the dreadful crime can always start a new thread, titled accordingly.
