It takes a special kind of stupid to think this refers to domestic violence.

Didn't Newton come up with gravity when something "hit him"

Sanmac, Pix has made that point, and same non-hysterical nature thinking would not argue against it.

I would only reiterate my points - that it is bad design which should have been spotted well in advance of production, and its nasty message flies entirely in the face of everything Roald Dahl was about.
Andy-Hughes “The wrong message jumped out at me on first sight, and that’s all I can see...”

Fair enough, I find it bizarre that you immediately leapt to that thought (and I think it’s an enormous leap), but if that’s what you saw, then that’s what you saw.

What I saw, and all I continue to see, is that somebody had a brilliant idea; were it not for this ridiculous brouhaha (love that word) I honestly don’t think I would have seen the misinterpretation that Andy, jno and the twitter complainers have oddly leapt to.
A woman without her man is nothing.
Can be changed to?
Unbelievable!
I read it as it was intended to be read. It would be interesting to hear what a psychologist makes of the other, quite bizarre in my opinion, interpretation.
Now then, now then folks...I have seen worse things on a mug.
It's obvious to most right thinking people , that it is not intended to convey any negative message .

However to those who are not right thinking , it could in their minds be instructing them to carry out an instruction ,given the way it's laid out
Just when I think I've heard it all …..
It's certainly been helpful in reinforcing any impression of self-obsessed ego and an almost Papal belief in infallability.

I'm teetering again.
It might be a good idea for these slogan writers to do a crash course in grammar.
Good for you Douglas, a little honest self-analysis may make you a nicer person.

We can only hope ...

Obviously that is something we can never know, but had I seen the mug on sale, without any of the brouhaha, i would still have seen it in exactly the same way, and I remain as mystified as you as to why anyone would see it any other way.
Bazile - // It's obvious to most right thinking people , that it is not intended to convey any negative message . //

Speaking as a right thinking person, I think it is clear that no negativity was intended in the message - but that does not mean that no negativity was created by careless design.

As we all know, lack of intent does no equate to lack of effect, it would be nice if it did.

// However to those who are not right thinking , it could in their minds be instructing them to carry out an instruction ,given the way it's laid out //

I think that anyone who sees the message as an 'instruction' is already too far down the path of serious instability to be seriously affected by anything like this.

Your obsession is showing again ... have a little lie down.

A woman. Without her, man is nothing.
What mugs!
Thanx Andrew, whoops Andy.
Ellipsis, lol.
ah,
Did you make a similar complaint/observation with feigned outrage when Britney implored the public to ‘hit her baby one more time’?

I’m guessing you took it literally?
I have made an observation, no complaint, no outrage, feigned or otherwise.

As to my reaction to a pop song, guess away, it's free.
