I'm off to Majorca on Monday for 4 nights with some mates, where the rate of Covid is incredibly low (and a lot lower than where I live), and as it happens we're not opening the office until the 3rd week of Sept, so upon my return I'll still be WFH, but that aside, there is zero chance that I'll quarantine for a fortnight; I'll still be walking the dog, going to the shops, seeing friends, going to the pub and anywhere else the hell I choose to go.

Sometimes the law is just simply wrong - and this is one of those times.

I've sourced insurance that doesn't exclude travelling against Govt advice - only cost about 25% more - so in the event I fall ill or have an accident, all will be tickety-boo.
> as sitting in a pub for two hours without a mask is OK but having to wear a muzzle to pop into a shop for two minutes,

So what would you suggest . Masks in pubs/ close pubs (I doubt you want that) or no masks required in shops? I think the idea is you can put measures in place in pubs- designated seats, table service, you collect ID of all present, whereas shopping is a free for all where you don't sig in to the shop, So there's a difference you've ignored
We'll take care DD. But we aware the Balaerics now have a problem and if you disobey rules in Spain you won't get away with it. But enjoy yourself.

Some people like DD are just selfish. She's by no means alone. Nothing new- selfishness has been around forever
He not she.
You call it selfish FF, whereas I think I'm just being realistic and pragmatic, insofar as at the moment the chance of catching Covid or passing it on is tiny, and the risk of death is statistically irrelevant.

I would never have dreamt of going away (even if allowed) at the height of Covid, but it's now at the point that the risk is negligible.

That's a selfish attitude to me, but you've made your mind up so good luck but you have lost any credibility with me.
Just annoys me that people are so proud of ignoring guidelines. And DD will come back here and not care a hoot about others. However thousands of people not quarantining are being fined now. Although I doubt they will care. But the Spanish police aren't kind¡
And without question it's selfish.
This is an anonymous website, so a stranger losing credibility in me will not cause any sleepless nights.

My only surprise is that some people do not possess the ability to evaluate risk, because if they did, they would recognise the risk is tiny. I do wonder though if the opinion of scared people will change when Covid is still here this time next year, which it will be, or will they still be so achingly pious.
//If they had a test they must have had symptoms.//

Er…no. Two people - my next door neighbour and a good friend of mine – received test kits as part of the random exercise the government is undertaking to assess the spread of the disease. (So threatening is this disease at present that they have to randomly test people to see if they have it). The samples you take are collected by courier. My friend was told his would be collected at 12 noon. The courier would place an empty box on his doorstep and ring the doorbell. The sample was to be placed in the box, the door closed and only then would the courier step up and take the sample. On the appointed day the courier rang the doorbell at ten past one and simply took the sample from my friend. That was two weeks ago today– he still hasn’t had the result. He’s going away next week. No doubt he’ll get a text as he’s on his way to Heathrow.

//So what would you suggest . Masks in pubs/ close pubs (I doubt you want that) or no masks required in shops?//

No masks in shops. The chances of contracting the virus anywhere are slim. Doing so by passing close to an infected person in a shop? Close to zero.

//However thousands of people not quarantining are being fined now.//

Really? Must have done a lot in the last two weeks then. Just ten issued up to 14th August:

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-just-10-fines-issued-to-people-breaching-travel-quarantine-rules-12049435

In mid-October (provided my flight’s not cancelled) I’m off to an area that has far fewer weekly cases than many areas of England – including one about twenty miles from me which I can – and do – travel to from time to time. It is only very marginally higher than where I live and that is incredibly low. When I come back, as things stand, I’m expected to stay in for a fortnight. I’ll have to think about that but as things stand at the moment I might not.
one of my relations had reconstituted the office wiv computers and so on
and on the first day of return- no really - a clerk jumped up at 11 oclock and said
oh you have to give me time off for my covid test !

they fired her
Never underestimate the depth of human stupidity. We have a saying in IT, nothing is idiot proof, because they are always making better idiots.
oh and bobby the word is Dinlo.

I like my version best 3Ts as it incorporates the word 'dim' in it
Just saying :0)
Agree with DD at 20:13, especially the pious bit.
the BBC report says the man was texted when he was already on the plane, and he told the cabin crew. The Guardian report says the same.

I don't know why the difference but there's a 50:50 chance they did exactly the right thing.

Yes Jno, all that was mentioned earlier in the thread - it seems to get washed away as the pages roll.
