People are rarely even-handed. If they agree with what’s being said, they’ll support it. If they don’t they’ll object. Personally, I don’t believe politics of any description has a place in sport.
//what do [eople think of sports men and women wearing poppies? That could be viewed as a "political" statement, but I guess that's ok//
I don’t believe that is a political statement. It’s a respectful gesture of remembrance.

FIFA have had a history of ridiculous decisions. The poppy one was just the latest in a stream of incompetence from them. I'm sure if the FA slip a few million into the pocket of the director of FIFA, they could've worn anything they wanted.
Funny, no poppies, but rainbow bootlaces were fine (I have no issue with either personally)

bednobs: "I personally don't believe that wearing poppies is a political statement, but clearly FiFa did. What I am saying is that what constitutes a "political statement" appears to be individual. so if you (TTT) wants to ban political statements, he'll have to ban poppies too " - well that's a leap of illogic, poppies are NOT a political statement by any stretch of the imagination.
Politics has no place in sport.
As pointed out where is the line to be drawn? So far better to say NO politics, whatever your cause.
I think Hamilton probably has crossed the line on this one. F1 needs to be careful it already has the green lobby on its back if it looses fans the sponsors will desert like rats of a shining ship.

but it's not a leap of logic ttt - FiFa fined the England team for wearing poppies as a "political statement" in 2016. That's what i'm saying - "political statements" that one agrees with (like poppies) are ok, but political statements that one does not agree with are not.
Personally I take about as much notice of Hamilton's statement as I do of (for example) Bono, or lilly allen when they start spouting about stuff (ie zero)
