I dont know and it ****** me off. What is the point in ranting about stuff that happened many hundreds of years ago and actually sanitising it to make it a white on black "crime" - when in fairness all races were complicit in the slavery of fellow humans who were less fortunate. Because there are pressure groups that want to appear hard done by because of history but who in reality have freedom to do what they wish, and opt to be a bigger pain than most. Compare with those in real distress that have no way to protest and most of the public don't realise they are in trouble.
It's more fashionable.
Very good point.

This country is desperate for investment, even if it is from Arab scum. We turn a blind eye to atrocities from Arabs (and even sell them planes, missiles and training).

But our GDP looks good, even if our moral compass is kaput.
You're right in the fact that the many Charities and other agencies that are working on helping those suffering from modern slavery don't get the publicity they need and deserve.
I blame Grace Jones.
Maybe brown and orientals and white east Europe slaves lives now dont matter asmuch as black lives matterd then
The slavery that occurs in parts of NW Africa, India, and China, is in far away countries of which we know little.
The protests in the UK and, to a lesser extent the USA, are much more in our faces.

Are you ok, Sandy?
Yes. I think so.
Why do you ask?
Your right inaway sandyRoe, I was talking of modern slavery here but royfraus was talking of slavery in the fareast
The racism in this country is so bad that BAMEs are queueing up to float across the Channel in old car tyres and rubber ducks to get here.

What is the point in ranting about stuff that happened many hundreds of years ago and actually sanitising it to make it a white on black "crime" - when in fairness all races were complicit in the slavery of fellow humans who were less fortunate. The truth of the matter is that slavery is absolutely bloody rife today (again perpetrated by all races upon races). I get really annoyed at those who spend time ranting about history where right under our noses it is happening TODAY. Is it because the unpalatable truth is it IS happening but its an easier target to rip down statues rather than address the real issue?

There is an issue close to me that I have reported (now twice) where I believe there is a human slavery element but nothing is done. I presume because resources are being put into policing "events" and "protests" rather than real human issues.

Because you think we know little about NW Africa, India, and China.
In fact there are slaves in this country. Immigrants brought in illegally by traffickers are either sold into the sex trade, where they are kept prisoner in appalling conditions or sold to gang masters and treated abysmally. Maybe the fact many are here illegally makes them less worthy of concern to some, but at least their plight is real.

That's a good rant that I fully agree with, Barmaid.
“Because you think we know little about NW Africa, India, and China“

That seems a fair assumption to me.
Ranting is a lot easier on the other hand and has its rewards :-)
yup, what barmaid said, nothing to add.
Yes, barmaid has pretty much summed up my feelings too.
"But our GDP looks good, even if our moral compass is kaput."

Gromit, whilst I have some sympathy with your view perhaps now is not the time to be picking fights?
Well said Barmaid.
Slavery is appalling but what has gone has gone and I would feel far more support and sympathy for for them if all these protesters were actually doing something about modern slavery and not ancient history. Then they would deserve respect imo.
