What do ABers make of this? If he really paid only $750 as a year's tax, does that set a good example to US citizens?

Perhaps when his poorest working supporters realise he's paid less tax than they have for years,

^ that
The bottom line here is that those Americans who support Trump , will continue to so do , irrespective of how he conducts his tax affairs

In fact they will support him , whatever he has hidden in his closet

The US elections will be decided , based on other issues
^^^
Chads probably
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the last President to hide his tax returns. He was a Democrat and dodgy so everyone has conveniently forgotten.

President Trump has vehemently resisting having his his taxes returns published for years, is anyone really surprised that he was hiding something ?

I doubt this will change anyones vote. Most republicans see it as their patriotic duty and aim to pay no, or as little tax as possible. Every Democratic knew the POTUS a failed businessman.
Trump has the ability to avoid taxes, and is using that ability to its fullest extent. $70,000 claimed for hairdressing expenses? That's just one example.

Poorer working Americans don't have that ability, and typically pay about 20% of their already low incomes out in taxes.

If I was one of those poorer working Americans, I would feel that I was giving more to the state than Trump, and he was taking more from the state than me.
$70,000 for hairdressing expenses?

I hope he didn't leave a tip.
Plus $95,464 for the First Lady’s haircuts.
Nearly 7 million jobs have been created nationwide since President Trump’s election, including more than 500,000 manufacturing jobs.
Last year, the unemployment rate reached its lowest level in half a century.
Unemployment rates for African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Americans without a high school degree, and disabled Americans have logged record lows.

He takes no salary as president, well, one dollar I believe, (& before you say it, I know he isn't the first)

Who will they vote for?
I know there’s an election looming but if his tax affairs really are in such disarray I’m surprised it’s taken so long for his crimes to be exposed. No other stone has been left unturned during his tenure. The rest of the world has made very sure of that.
Biden might be so angry he'll pull out of the head to head debates.
Business has a duty to minimise it's tax burden.
I'm more interested in how so many Democrats have made $100,000,000+ fortunes out of their relatively meagre Government salaries.
Is there anyone on this thread who consciously pays more tax than they need do?

Also I note that there is no suggestion, even from his sternest critics, that he has done anything illegal

Unless some of his claims are lies, the President hasn’t committed any crimes.
All Presidents since Roosevelt have made their tax records available for inspection. President Trump didn’t. He was perfectly within his rights to keep them private. But that is why it has taken 5 years for these details to be revealed (I assume the New York Times got the information from an illegal leak from someone in the I.R.S.).
Sunk, //Unless some of his claims are lies, the President hasn’t committed any crimes. //

I know.
The question could have been:

Which Answerbankers support a tinpot, thick, anti-working class, lying, cheating, meglomaniac, because they are similarly endowed?

And which Answerbankers support progress, liberty, and the freedom of individuals to live in harmony together?

A
The latter for me. Go Donald.
^Me too.
Trump has posted $47.4m in losses.
Hope he is not heading for his seventh bankruptcy.
// a tinpot, thick, anti-working class, lying, cheating, meglomaniac, because they are similarly endowed?//

Still he has gone now. They put Max Headroom in his place.
Move along the bus Spice and Naomi please and make room for me. Gotta so shall distance you know.
It's not so long ago that Lewis Hamilton was being castigated by some on here, for his tax avoidance measures

Funny old world , isn't it
His businesses have been haemorrhaging money for years. Perhaps he didn't want the tax returns released because it gives the lie to his claims that he's a great businessman.
I think he's a 400 million debt due soon.
I wonder how many of the millions his father left him he still has?
