What do ABers make of this? If he really paid only $750 as a year's tax, does that set a good example to US citizens?

"Let's e honest, this entire thread is based on our own personal politics. The right will defend Donald no matter what, the left will condemn him. If it was Biden accused of exactly the same, the roles would be reversed."

Well that's not true. I don't like Donny but that doesn't mean I would automatically disregard such actions in another politician.

Why do people treat politics like football teams, where you support them to the death and they can do no wrong. Do you see everything as tribal?
Mozz - // I was gonna counter that Andy, but we've derailed enough threads by discussing the so rule, so I won't bother.

Needless to say, meh. //

You weren't going to bother, until you posted that off-thread post to tell me that - why not simply shrug your shoulders and move on?

That's what I do when something irks me, you should try it - saves cluttering up threads with de-railing comments.
Have you seen the past political threads on AB Trev? I'm afraid to say that on the whole, the two opposing factors play to type. There are exceptions, but they're fairly few and far between.

We're all acting to type. //

My contributions are not based on my personal politics.

I bow to no-one in voicing my views that President Trump is a fascist as a politician, and a greasy pervert as a human being.

But that does not mean I don't side with his willingness to use each and every legal loophole he can find to avoid paying tax, because I have done exactly the same, and applaud anyone else who does so.

Which you failed to do with that reply. We're as bad as each other. No more. I'm zipping it.
"But that does not mean I don't side with his willingness to use each and every legal loophole he can find to avoid paying tax, because I have done exactly the same, and applaud anyone else who does so."

Not a very commendable trait.

Over 60% of Britons in 2015 believed it was never acceptable to use a tax avoidance scheme.
Your source Trevor?

Then 60% of Britons were allowing their skewed sense of morality to get in the way of simple fiscal prudence.

Not to forget, I couldn't care less what 60% of Britons think about just about anything - including tax evasion.
"Then 60% of Britons were allowing their skewed sense of morality to get in the way of simple fiscal prudence."

Like those that give to charity you mean. Silly fools.
Trevor, no I don't mean.

I was talking about tax, I did not mention charity.

PLease don't put words in my mouth.
It's not totally clear whether all his actions were legal yet as they have not been fully investigated - and they won't be for a while if he retains the presidency. For instance there is the claim that a payment of $747,622 was made to to Ivanka that he should have paid tax on but didn't as it was filed as business expense.

Cf You missed the SO off the front of that, Trevor.
You were the one equating malfeasance with fiscal prudence and skewed morality. Your praxis is for personal advantage to the detriment of the agency.

As I said, not a commendable trait. But there you have it.
Trevor, I have no problem with your opinion of what I say, as long as you confine yourself to what I post, and not what you invent, and then criticize me as though it was my position.
> But that does not mean I don't side with his willingness to use each and every legal loophole he can find to avoid paying tax, because I have done exactly the same

But you're not running for President.

If it was Boris ... or, say, 15 years ago and Blair ... would you still be applauding? I seem to recall lots of people being up in arms about duck house MPs' expenses ... but it was legal, as was Trump's $70000 hairdressing claim. Legal and disgusting. Give as little as you can, take as much as you can, is not a good position for a politician to have, which is why none of them will say they take that position, and they do their best to hide that position, but their actions belie that position.
o god we are stumbling over whether legal means moral and honest

anyway the nobs say that the hardened Trump voters dont mind.
and the evangelicals dont mind bim screweing aboutbecause he has appoitned a long time anti abortion judge
// Over 60% of Britons in 2015 believed it was never acceptable to use a tax avoidance scheme.//

when Jacon rees mogg - m oved his massive fortune to Dublin which was quite legal
0% Brit voters said - oo good on him - yeah foo! good one!
That's because everyone thinks he's a ***.
“o god we are stumbling over whether legal means moral and honest“

Don’t worry Peter, the Pope has cleared it up:

“Tax evasion is part of a ‘structure of sin’. It has become evident that those who do not pay taxes do not only commit a felony but also a crime: if there are not enough hospital beds and artificial respirators, it is also their fault."
The American Catholics must be wondering who to worship.
