Far better than a carp deal. The French and Spanish are pirates of the sea with no regard for fish stocks. They just hoover up anthing. Just look in the fish markets in France and Spain. Small fish and crustaceans that should never be landed. The French just shrug and tell you it's a good size for bouillabaise. They even grade the huitrs. The small size should...

'The EU has been prepping for a no deal since the referendum.'

But they didn't factor in Covid.
True, but that just have them another opportunity to laugh at the useless oaf we out in charge.

As Johnson said, and I agree with him - leaving with no deal would be a failure of statecraft.

Failure just about sums him up.
I'm just relieved that we didn't get dragged into accepting EU powers over our laws etc.. Any firm which deals with the EU and is worth its salt should have anticipated WTO terms as the default position and prepared for it long ago.

I would have been very unhappy had we agreed to drag-on the 'negotiations' when they weren't negotiating, just laying down the law. Covid is a worry - but a worry to the EU as well - and I am concerned about the way that is being handled.

Excellent BA retrocop. We'll forge our own way at least - be nice if other members of the Union stood with us in this as it is in their interest too.
Negotiate means negotiate. Brexiters think that EU failure to give in to UK demands means that EU is bad. EU thinks that UK failure to give in to EU demands is bad. Both those stances are wrong.
//The EU has been prepping for a no deal since the referendum.//

How very true. Whilst spinning out the "negotiations" for as long as possible so as to make the spiteful plans even more devious. Meanwhile the UK has been hamstrung by the rabid remainiacs and been foolishly thinking that the EUSSR was genuine. Some amongst us said from day one that we needed to give the Agincourt salute and walk away. The baby crying and foot stamping by the slavish remainiacs was deafening. Where's my fish?!!
Deal or no Deal . Out in name only . 27 to 1 , Britain Can't stand alone.
/Britain Can't stand alone.\
I think the history of the UK in the first half of the 20th C might prove you wrong on that score.
This is all so predictable. Its all part of the game. We pick up the ball and say we are going home. In a few days time the EU will offer some concessions. Then there will be a media blackout for a few days before a press conference is held saying a breakthrough has been achieved.
Why do political negotiations have to be like this? What has disappointed me most is the hostile tone adopted towards the EU from the onset. They are not our sworn enemy. From 1939-1945 we were on the same side as many of these nations. (Obviously not all of them)
Fiveleaves, you're so much more interesting when you don't talk about religion. :-)
//From 1939-1945 we were on the same side as many of these nations.//

Sadly the Nazi ones that we defeated never forgave us. Neither did the ones that we liberated from Nazi occupation and subjugation. They feel that we emasculated them by rescuing them and have seethed ever since. Hitler would have found his administrators here had he been able to get a foothold. Instead they had to work hard and deceptively to have us engulfed by their collective deadly guile. It almost works and the poison lives on in some. Thankfully the more vocal examples now appear to live elsewhere.
Did you imagine typing that out in green, Togo?
Togo, the Nazis have been dead for years. Get over your perverted idea of history, in which you took no part; you weren't a Nazi and you weren't an anti Nazi. Come into the world of today and try to make a better future, rather than trying to perpetuate old grudges and sorrows. I must say that I find you weird.
//the Nazis have been dead for years.//

How comforting to know. Perhaps someone should inform the luvvies, marxists, and commies who tag everyone who isn't a paid up bruvva as one. I rather fancy that you recognised yourself in my 20.57 post.

//Did you imagine typing that out in green,//

Envy has never been one of my failings duggie. I have no Scottish blood in me.
I was imagining your choice of crayon if you were to set your thoughts out longhand rather than envy.
Brexiters think that EU failure to give in to UK demands that they stop demanding access to our resources, and control over us, means that the EU is bad.

Er... yeah ! Any rational person should.
J/D 20.44, Britain did Not win WW2 alone . But they did win the World cup at football 54 years ago , and have never stopped bragging about it since.
Gulliver, England won the World Cup, I shocked no one has corrected you yet .
Britain won the world cup?

LOL LOL
22.09 I shocked also.

No, not quite all. About seven or eight of the 27 by my reckoning - plus a smattering of turncoats who joined us later - some of them much later - when they realised the writing was on the wall for our Teutonic friends.
