Religions almost all preach peace, right up to the shout of 'Charge!' Fighting in the name of a god who loves everybody. Certifiable the lot of them.

^That to Untitled.
Hit submit early there. Apologies.

Everyone is a potential terrorist. So if you're going to insist that "islam is the problem" when it comes to modern terrorism, I'm not sure how "potential terrorist influenced by the tenets of Islam" can mean anything other than "muslims."
Mozz, //Naomi, do you think that increased punishment would have any effect on someone so radicalized that they would happily give their lives for the cause they believe in? //

Not at all - but the world would be a safer place for the rest of us.
How do you want to punish them, then?
Untitled, that's like saying all men are potential rapists. Maybe we should look for a solution to the man infestation too?
Untitled, perhaps you need to think about it a bit more. I can't rationalise your thought processes for you - I can only respond to your questions, which I've done.
//Not at all - but the world would be a safer place for the rest of us.//

Would it? If it has no effect, then surely it leaves the world unchanged.

//Mozz, that makes no sense.//

It makes perfect sense.

You agreed with me that increased punishment would have no effect on radicalized terrorists. So if it has no effect, then it doen't make "the world would be a safer place for the rest of us".

Mozz, regardless of the effect punishment may or may not have on a terrorist, if he’s in prison it follows that he’s out of circulation and the world is, therefore, a safer place. I can’t put it any clearer.

How do you tell that someone is a terrorist until they commit a terrorist act? As a deterrent, increased.jail time has no effect on potential terrorists.
Mozz, I couldn’t care less what effect jail has on terrorists - or upon those planning or involved in terrorist atrocities. The man who butchered the French schoolteacher was on the security watchlist. Had they banged him up instead of watching him, that teacher would still be alive and in possession of his head - and his children would still have a father. And it happens time and time again. You give them the benefit of the doubt if you like but don’t expect me to. For me, innocent lives take precedence.
naomi - // Had they banged him up instead of watching him ... //

You can't imprison someone on the basis of what you think they might do - the law doesn't work like that.
/You can't imprison someone on the basis of what you think they might do\

I beg to differ. British history is littered with instances where that was done.
AH, lectures in law from you I can do without. People aren’t on security radar without reason.
15:49, yes mozz. That is more honest. Look at any terrorism or violent crimes, and males are far more susceptible than females- sex is a much more fundamental difference than religion, in every way.
While we have so many people wanting to claim the causes an "A.N. Other". There is little chance of improving anything.
^That muddies the waters. Not only men, but mostly men, but why men from a specific section of society?
It doesn't.... the point is to find the cause, otherwise it can't be helped. Concentrating on one (minority) categorisation is looking at it backwards.
But it's coming from one minority. We know that.
