The Esk Valley line is a single track so you know which direction the train will come from. It also meanders through the valley, so goes very slowly, about 20mph.
No one was in any danger when that photo was taken.

errr - on a single line, trains run in both directions on the same track; so you DON'T know from which direction the next train will arrive.

The ruling speed limit is 30/45mph. last night, on a line with a 40mph ruling limit, a group of 3 people was struck by a train that had just called at a station, killing one and giving a second life changing injuries.

Sunk, you may be right about the Esk Valley train, I have no idea, but the video you posted was of a train pulling into and out of a station, of course it wasn't going to go at speed.

Whether the couple were in any danger or not is fairly irrelevant, as they are going to encourage othwr imbeciles to do similar on more frequently used lines.

I would have thought you needed to know what visibility was like, whether timetables had been checked (no, I know they're not always adhered to), whether anyone was keeping a lookout, before this can be labelled as "careless", let alone dangerous.

People ought to be allowed to use a bit of initiative.

Jno, clearly they didn't get permission to do the shoot, or Network Rail wouldn't have outed them. Regardless of what precautions were made, it's still a dumbass move in my view.

There are just 6 trains a day more than 3 hours apart. It is a single train working line and uses a token, so if you watch a train leave, you know it will be hours before it returns.

Baldric, yep. If they get themselves killed, serve them right, as the title of this thread suggests. But as per Sunk's post, this doesn't look like a high-risk line.

then you watch the train depart, you set up your photoshoot, and.... 20mn later you get spread all over the track by the engineer's train that you didn't know about. yes there are engineer's trains, and the Esk Valley has been subject to recent works.

yes ich that's why they are merely contenders at the moment, but those that tend to do this sort of thing often eventually do end up with and award.
