Well, theres many times in the OT that God ordered the Israelites to keep the female virgins of conquered nations for themselves as plunders of war. (just how they would know that they were virgins has never been explained to me, and why would they want to keep female virgins as plunders of war...except as sex slaves...has never been explained to me either)

Yes... although from the OP, criticising "safeguarding", seems a bit like saying adults can't be blamed for their behaviour, if nobody else stopped them.
It would be useful all round, if we could just accept adults are responsible for themselves.
