Yes, however much people are upset by there golf club or pub being shut or because there expected to wear a mask in a shop or have a reasonable excuse for being out, are scientists and goverments across the world are in agreement that these tempry restriction will stem the tide untill vaccinnes come in. its frustrating and sad that we cant visit loved ones or jump in a taxi to meet at a pub (well a can now but won't) but its a small sacrifice for the good of us all and to save are NHS and vunerable citizens. If we got on and complyed most or all the time and stopped wingeing and picking holes trying to look clever the sooner we'll be able to get back close to normall. Just do it for yourself freinds, workmates and famly

Andy,I think the problem is that the Government itself who we are all completely at the mercy of,has not acted responsibly either.
A true leader would have exercised his duty properly during the pandemic.Despite the unprecedented nature Boris has made numerous misjudgments that should not have occurred.
Many of the PM's words and actions have defied belief.
I said ages ago that I gave up a long time ago trying to understand the Government's strategy and it is no surprise whatsoever that so many people are indignant.

Regardless of your disregard for the figures - loosely translated “don’t baffle me with the facts" - where is the evidence for that? I’ll leave aside that this country is already on its knees economically and is beginning to face a health crisis that will outstrip Covid by a country mile in the long term due to the NHS failing to treat patients promptly for other ailments. Instead I’ll concentrate on what we know.
Until they were relaxed on 4th July England was under similar restrictions to those being endured now. At that time the daily number of deaths (averaged over seven days) was down to 46. But that figure was not exceeded again until 2nd October and in fact it stood in single figures for a week at the beginning of September.
The relaxation of restrictions meant people were able to socialise and contact was bound to increase. My common sense tells me that less contact should lead to fewer infections and lower death numbers. The converse of that is that greater contact should lead to more infections and more deaths. But it didn’t. For three months, when restrictions were at their lowest deaths showed a steady decline. So if relaxing restrictions did not lead to an increase in deaths from July, why should a tightening of them see a decrease now?
I’m not too interested in what has happened in the USA. I don’t know what their figures are and I don’t know what they have and have not done during the pandemic. I have enough trouble keeping up with events here. What I do know is that during their now infamous and largely discredited press conference on Halloween, the Brothers Grimm (aka Prof Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance) scared the country witless with their Domesday scenarios (or “projections” or “predictions” whatever they called them). This was not for the first time. These predictions (I’ll stick to that) have proved wildly inaccurate, not even close. But they led the PM into ordering a second damaging lockdown. Meanwhile:
- critical care bed occupancy remains below average for the time of year.
- the “Nightingale” hospitals remain largely empty. Only two of the seven were ever used treating a total of around 150 patients. They have never been more than 1.5% full.
- Covid patients occupy only around 13% of NHS bed capacity (with much of the rest lying fallow).
- the weekly number of deaths (from all causes) has not exceeded the five year average since about the beginning of June.
Oh, and I nearly forgot:
The country has once again been placed in a form of State mandated torpor from which a large number of people and businesses will suffer irreparable damage.
The people for whom this has serious consequences are overwhelmingly in the older age groups or are suffering serious underlying health issues. Only 42 people aged under 40 and with no health issues have succumbed to it. It is absolutely ludicrous that the entire country suffers serious damage in order to mitigate the threat to a small minority of people who are vulnerable. Those groups need protection but closing businesses and locking down the economy is not a balanced way to achieve it. It’s the easy way, but the government should be concentrating on something a little harder but far less damaging.
I did comment on the one or two threads that related to vaccine developments. In particular I said I would be delighted to be proved wrong (with my prediction that a vaccine would be a long time coming). I'm still of that view. but my optimism is tinged with misgivings because I do not believe it will bring relief from the government's mania to ruin the country's economy as quickly as some people think. We'' have to see.

What irritates me somewhat is all that throw the guilt ball with remarks like idiots and naysayers at anyone who wants to question the way the government have handled this and the point of the restrictions put on us all don't appear to me to have jobs, businesses, families to support and mortgages/rents to find. The majority are already retired and have accepted being locked up for months. And based on the experience of the more senior members of my family, because they already had underlying health conditions they have maintained access to their GPS, something a lot of us have not unless we wanted to jump through 10 hoops.
I'd be interested to know if some miracle angel came down and wiped covid off the earth will you still stay locked up/masked up - because even flu can kill you, even the young very occasionally. You might catch that you know or anything else if you venture out.

This graph was issued by the WHO on 16/3/2020. The covid figures may now be different. I would imagine the other causes are, because non are being treated as far as I can ascertain.

NJ 16.32 You seem to have the view that only the UK have been in and out of lock down, and suffered economic damage. Just in case you're not up to speed NJ, many other countries have been doing the same, and have had to suffer the same economic damage, why? because they have little choice. You can criticize, condem or denonce until the cows come home, but unless you have a better plan? and I doubt you have, you're saying the rest of the world has got it wrong along with the UK.
You also appear to think that the vaccine is also a bit dodgy too, would you like to let us all know what degrees you have in this field? and were they could have possibly gone wrong.
You also seemed to avoid the present daily death rate, I believe on average 400 a day. Regarding other life threatening illnesses, I agree there are people dying that shouldn't be, but sadly that's how the cookie crumbles, and again, its not just happening in the UK, but there's one thing for sure, if we don't contain covid or the vaccine don't work then there will be many many more die that shouldn't. So may be for once in you're life try to think on the positive, or will the success of the vaccine render you're posts for the last few months void.
