Disgraceful that this sum of money should be spent on unveiling her statue in the midst of a pandemic and economic crisis.

DeskDiary @ 9.14 Bang On, exactly right.
It is always strange that it isn't ever seen as a sculpture. People always in this & in other cases want to discuss the character of the subject.
The museums of the world are full of portraits from antiquity of people who were pretty monstrous in life & yet we do not question this, but see them as artworks - something of beauty.

In this case I'm not sure of what I'm looking at in the photo, it appears to be in the clay stage with artificial eye inserts. However I would say it looks fairly well accomplished, but sculpture has to be seen in the round to make a proper assessment.

the statue is made of Bronze Khadro apparently.
But not in that photo
no i know, but it cost 300k so better be substantial

11.08, Shucks I got it wrong again , thought "G" meant "Grotesque"
As an aside, who actually commissioned the statue in the first instance?
ken don't know, but its caused a lot of division seemingly.
gulliver why ask if you thought it was something else.
from the Guardian

Nearly 30 years since her departure from Downing Street, the Lincolnshire town of her birth agreed to honour its most famous daughter with the bronze sculpture, which was originally meant to stand in London’s Parliament Square.
Of course there was also "Stand Down Margaret" by The Beat, and The Specials adapted Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm"
Not to mention the catchy
"How Does it Feel to be the Mother of a Thousand Dead?"
Wonder what happened to Thatchers son Mark . Did he go on trial somewhere for Gun running ?,
Hey, Gullie, you’re on the Internet.
