I find most Spoons bars are like that inside as they're usually disused older buildings, ours is a former Council offices

i don't find ours too bad, but then again last time i was in one it was rammed to the gills and could hardly get to the bar

That's not a night out for me , Newcastle quayside tends to be like that with hugely inflated prices too

Wetherspoons are good prices, our local/hotel is quite expensive.
I only went to one Wetherspoons because i had an appointment and had time to kill and there wasn't a lot else open

So Royfromaus...you want the 18th century to be considered what the uk is great for...yep...inflicting protestantism on people with different beliefs, ensuring people were stolen from their homes and transported to other parts of the world and enslaved, treating the poor with disdain...weren't children sent up chimneys and miners and others, desperate to feed families, made to work in extremely dangerous conditions?......one could go on but there really is little to be proud of in those centuries.

Sqad 13.09, well, well - I can't remember when I was last in a pub, something that has only happened at the choice of others I wanted/needed to be with. Beer - I too find it vile. So, I clearly think pubs are one of the least interesting things about Britain while for others they are the first thing mentioned as a plus. Many restaurants serve excellent food so pubs could disappear and good food would still be available.

Of course I'm proud to be British (English first), but it seems to be frowned upon if we dare to say so! Look how proud the Americans are of being American, flags everywhere and yet we hardly see any flags here. I'm sad at the way the country is going though, too politically correct and too afraid to speak our minds for fear of being arrested for a ridiculous 'hate crime'! I love our seaside towns, our lush green countryside and quaint little villages and city centres like Chester, York, Liverpool and Manchester. Never been to Newcastle, but bet it's great. Yup, very proud, that's me ...

some pubs serve excellent food, i go into one because i don't mind just having a beer/drink. I can meet up with friends, or not, i am not sure i would do that with a restaurant.

where my family live on the coast, they have an excellent pub which serves up excellent food. We usually go there when i visit

What about the little chocolate box villages , the Dales etc? All beautiful and ILM is right, America's not scared of singing their national anthem or flying the Stars and Stripes , we've became very mamby pamby now here , nativities getting cancelled and so it goes on, I love my country but it's losing its identity

lots of places Bobbi still have their chocolate box villages, where they have village fetes, fairs and country shows. I visit family on the south coast when i can and its like chalk and cheese with London life

Same as the Dales up here Emmie, mind you we have some beautiful areas here too, Northumberland is very unspoilt
