'Racist' Milwall Fans - Your View?

There has been controversy about the reaction to players 'taking the knee' at a weekend game, where Milwall fans were heard to boo the players involved.

It appears the FA are investigating the potential for action against the club for the 'racsist actions' of its fans.

Personally, I don't believe that showing your disapproval of an act of support for a social campaign - or a political organisation, depending on your viewpoint, equates to either not supporting that campain / organisation, or to actively advising your support of an opposite point of view.

Put simply, I don't believe that booing 'taking the knee' makes anyone a racist.

It's an assumption that has no basis in reason, and to me, it shows people being far too keen to look at a negative attitude to one behaviour, and ascribe it possessing a negative attitude to another, with no viable connection.

I am not a football fan, and I wouldn't ever boo anyone, or any action in public, but I do strongly dislike the pointless OTT woke-ism and self-righteousness of 'taking the knee' and I believe it has no place in our sports arenas, but if anyone were to accuse me of being a racist for expressing that view, we would be having serious words.

I have no idea - he didn;t say so, I assumed he was linking to her views on the matter, but they are not there, so why would he link to them without making that point?

'Taking the knee' has made the point, and should now stop. Just as we all enthusiastically joined in the weekly clapping for the NHS, that, too, served its purpose and was brought to an end, and everyone seemed to agree. That didn't mean we all no longer appreciate the efforts of those working in the NHS or care sector, just that the point had been made, and it would have diluted the impact had it continued.

It's the same with taking the knee.

The so-called 'taking of the knee' protests began as part of an international response to the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American man who was killed during an arrest after Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis Police Department officer, knelt on Floyd's neck for nearly eight minutes.

The police had been summoned by a shop-owner who had refused to accept a forged bank note from him, & who then called the police to say that he was outside of his shop, appeared to be drunk & was entering a car. The police arrived & asked him to get out of the car, he then became violent & was brought to the ground & held by the police officer. Floyd was a powerful man & refused to calm down & continued to struggle until his unfortunate & unnecessary death.


Floyd was an ex-con who had served time for, with a group of other men, had broken into a flat & terrified a pregnant woman, holding her at knife-point while her flat was searched for money & drugs.

BLM originated well before this incident & was used by them as an opportunity to spark their agenda. There will be no doubt, a future gallery of photos of 'useful idiots' such as football players, policemen & politicians (Keith Starmer et al) ludicrously showing obeisance to this political Marxist cause.

Millwall fans have form, going way, way back. I wouldn't hold them up as the moral guardians of football if i were you Khandro.
At the beginning of every match, the players take the knee and not once will you hear a commentator mention BLM. Instead, they say words along the lines of; "Players taking the knee to show unity and that there is no place for racism."

The black activists in this country are now a very loud significant minority, seeking not to call out racism and work towards equality of opportunity, but to forge lucrative careers from their undemocratic activism, and gain superiority by intimidation and insisting that we rewrite our history and do penance for real or imagined crimes against black people.

I agree, AH. There seems to be the view that "if you don't support me you are against me". We see examples of that narrow minded thinking on here every day.

I think taking the knee has had its time and is in danger of losing its meaning. Although I do disagree with the booing, they have the right to disagree and express that.

It does pee me off a bit that there are so many sections of society who feel utterly down trodden and treated badly and who ought to be treated better but no one takes the knee on their behalf.

I think that in the stands and particularly fans such as Millwall who arw notorious that players should show their support for BLM - too many players are subjected to racist chants.

Sure. The players have the right to take the knee. The "supporters" have a right to boo the players they "support". And the FA have the right to investigate the cause of the booing, which they are doing.

Last time I looked it had disappeared, I don't suppose that would have anything to do with the fact they want the great British public to give them loads of money would it?
