Are they? I'm not sure, we have a Thatcher Close here and the estate was built in the 70s so I doubt it would have been named after those men who thatched roofs??

There is a Pratt Street in the borough, possibly more than one
Not near Dublin, pet. Wouldn't surprise me if there was another one up there though. I think there's 6 Newports.

no one has suggested changing Cromwell Road even though he was quite a divisive figure. Unless it was named after another Cromwell?

I can remember when Mike Ashley wanted to change St James Street to Something about Sports Direct, even with all his money, he didn't get his way and now it's a rather posh St James Boulevard
Jeez, it's only tiny. How was I lost in it?

Being the capital Emmie that's understandable
this what i found

Church Rd tops street name list The most popular street names in London are revealed in a survey today. The joint top names are Church Road and High Street - followed by Park Road, The Avenue and The Drive. Royal themed names also score highly, with 34 instances of Victoria Road and 31 of Queens Road in the capital.

Very Royal, love them
I have found an Elizabeth Avenue, there are probably more.
I have an interest in street names as they can give an insight into local history. Most new estates have streets named around a theme. You can often date buildings from the names. In Wallsend where I grew up there is an old estate with street names such as Victoria, Albert, Diamond, Jubilee. This tells me that the houses were built c. 1897. There is also a pre-war estate with seemingly random names, one of which is Chicken Road. Nothing to do with poultry; it and the surrounding streets are all named after former mayors of the borough. I could go on, but I suppose I'd better try and get a life!
mine is named after a famous Earl.
Have they re-named the Bull Ring the Camel Market - or is that something else we can look forward to?
i always wondered what prompted the Elephant and Castle...

ha ha Noami...
i just looked at that mamy....
Elephant and Castle is said to be a corruption of Infanta de Castille, Queen Eleanor, wife of Edward I.
Slightly off topic but remember hearing on the radio of someone who drove all the way from Kent to Leeds to go to a concert at Leeds Castle. Naturally they missed the concert so that was an waste of money for tickets and fuel.
How did they not know where Leeds Castle is?
